There is a way to make your camera outfit future proof, and here's how:

Film cameras are going for dirt cheap today. Professional auto-focus SLRs like the Nikon F5 can be had for around $300-400 used in excellent condition at places like eBay, Craigslist, and KEH.com. Many of these cameras--especially the later models--are fully compatible with most if not all of the lenses made today. A top-end SLR outfit can be assembled for under $800--the cost of a new mid-range "prosumer" SLR kit today--and with a much lower quality lens.
