- Visualizing HTTP status codesMarch 15 2008
-
Alan Dean is the author of a great and very helpful activity diagram which describes the resolution of HTTP response status codes, given various headers. Alan has published a new release of his work, fixing few issues and put into a coordinate matrix. More than a tool, it is also a support of communication for the interest of the whole community.
Enjoy!
- Roy T. Fielding has a blog!February 21 2008
-
Apparently tired of repeating himself in different media, Roy has decided to launch his personal blog!
We welcome his initiative and look forward to his upcoming posts. Some questions for him:
- What is the current state of the Waka initiative?
- What is the purpose of the recent initiative launched around HTTP 1.1?
- Is there a plan for a HTTP 1.2 revision?
- Do you speak REST ?November 6 2007

Thanks to enthusiastic restafarians, the famous dissertation written by Roy T. Fielding entitled “Architectural Styles and the Design of Network-based Software Architectures” has been fully translated in Chinese.
Fielding’s dissertation has also been partially translated in French and is available here: Thèse de Roy T. Fielding - CHAPITRE 5: Representational State Transfer (REST).
These efforts are very helpful to spread the REST word. If you aware of other translations please leave a comment on this note !
- Roy T. Fielding speaks up on RESTOctober 21 2007

Since the publication of his thesis on software architecture in 2000, defining the REST architecture style, Roy T. Fielding has continuously explained and defended his work, especially in the REST discussion group.
Other people (Mark Baker and Paul Prescod initially) took on the role of actively advocating for REST, especially in opposition to the WS-* approach. Recently however, Roy has done several public interventions to explain and promote REST.
In August 2006, he gave an interview to Jon Udell discussing HTTP, REST, WebDAV, JSR 170, and Waka.
In June, he presented “A little REST and relaxation” at the Jazoon conference. A video recording is available. Anne Thomas Manes as an interesting point of view on this presentation. Arnon Rotem-Gal-Oz has some related observations
