- Brightkite now in Public BetaDecember 3
-
A little after midnight last night we dropped our invite-only status and launched into public beta! I can’t express how excited we are to reach this milestone. Private beta testers, thank you for all your community support and feedback, we could not have made this happen without you.
What does this mean?
Well for starters the open public beta significantly devalued any Brightkite invitations floating around
Invitations are no longer required and sign up is now open everyone. In addition, you can now invite your friends to join Brightkite without restriction.
Even though we are announcing the public beta today, keep watch over the next few weeks for a significant iPhone update, additional mobile support, additions to our API and a host of new features and improvements.
- Introducing the Brightkite WallNovember 19

Imagine if everyone around you, even non-Brightkite users, had a window into the live stream of notes, photos and checkins being posted at a given place. With the Brightkite Wall this is now possible. The Brightkite Wall allows you to turn any monitor, projector or TV into a live interactive placestream display. The wall is perfect for conferences, live events, bars, trade shows, retailers, or just displaying on your desktop.
The best part about the Wall is it’s free, self serve and users can participate on the fly without a preexisting Brightkite account.
Try the Brightkite Wall out for yourself:
- Browse to the desired place.
- Choose the Wall tab and click on the embedded Brightkite Wall to go full screen.
- If desired you can customize wall. Click on the “Customize this wall” link and follow the directions.

To try out the Geode plugin:
- Download and install the latest Mozilla Firefox web browser.
- Read the Geode blog post. Download and install Geode.
- Restart Firefox.
- Make sure you are connected via wi-fi and visit the Guess My Location page.
