Something old; something new…June 11

I’ve recently taken up a contract role at a very large corporation in a change management/communications role. It’s an interesting project and a great team of people, but there’s something I’m sort of wrestling with a bit…

See, we’re kind of encouraged to blog at work on our intranet site – which is cool – and obviously some divisions are more enthusiastic about it than others, mine is one of the ones that’s not as enthusiastic as it could be.

Which is what creates my conundrum  – do I go ahead and blog in work-land – with all the associated second guessing about whether what I’m saying is work appropriate – do I not touch it with a ten foot pole (what is that in metric anyway?) or some middle road…

I’m kind of opting for the middle road at present – I’ve linked to this blog from the work site – so it’s clear it’s not a work related thing necessarily, but I’m still “down with the whole blog thing”.

We’ll see how it goes.

In other work-related news – I can confirm that after you’ve been able to wear jeans and t-shirt to work every day having to wear a suit (and particularly hosiery) sucks.

So – not just him then…May 11

I try not to just randomly link to stuff from well known websites – on the grounds you’ve probably already seen them, but this reminded me so much of Sprocket I couldn’t resist

Conservative Government in the UK?May 10

As usual Stephen Fry says it best

I remember the main feeling induced by living under Thatcher was shame. It was shaming to live in a country that could be so proudly, gloatingly unkind, so vulgar, shabby and ungracious in its attitudes to the outsider, the weak and the destitute. Goodness knows the Labour administration has been very, very far from perfect, but I think we will only appreciate the unheralded and uncelebrated good it did when the props it built up for the poor, the disabled and the disadvantaged have been kicked away.

Fun with baconOctober 22 2009

Like everyone (1) I love bacon, mostly I have it fried for breakfast, sometimes with maple syrup ’cause that whole sweet/salty thing is just fab.

So you can imagine how delighted I was to discover a recipe for candied bacon - yup, that’s bacon with a hard toffee coating…

I know what I’ll be doing this weekend.

(1) everyone except those who don’t like bacon obviously.
