After browsing Flickr for some texture ideas, I ran across a cool “grunge frame” image and thought I would give it a whirl myself. Each of these textures are 4-5 images stacked on top of one another layers with various blending modes. I then just erased the center of certain layers, which gives the frame effect. I hope you find a good use for them, they were a blast to make. Enjoy!

Have you ever plucked an image from the web and tried to edit it in Photoshop only to find annoying problems? It’s probably a .gif in Indexed color mode. For this quick example I’m using the MediaTemple ad in my sidebar, which happes to be an indexed .gif.
When trying to edit an indexed color image in Photoshop, certain adjustments are disabled, as you can see below.
The quickest way to tell what you’re dealing with is to glance at the Layers palette. You’ll see right away if it’s an indexed color image.

Today marks the 300th texture we’ve given away here on Texture Tuesday, here’s to the next 300! I thought I’d do another grab bag set today, you can check out the first one here. Like before, these are just some textures I’ve had sitting around that deserved to be shared and used in your design projects. - Brush Pilot 1.0.4 Now AvailableJanuary 25

I released Brush Pilot 1.0.4 yesterday, and I recommend everyone upgrade if you haven’t already. In 1.0.4 we’ve added the Sparkle framework for automatic updates. From now on when a new version is released Brush Pilot will automatically give you the option to download an install the new version. This way you don’t have to keep track of new versions, it does it for you. Also in 1.0.4 is a bug fix that prevents BP from crashing in Snow Leopard with no Photoshop installed. This is a free upgrade for all licensed users.
