Interview with Heavy Rain Director and WriterYesterday
1UP has a brand new interview with the writer and director of Heavy Rain, David Cage. Cage, who also happens to be the CEO and president of Quantic Dream talks about how Heavy Rain differs from Indigo Prophecy, the game's online plans, and more.

What are some examples of things you did wrong in Indigo Prophecy that you're staying away from this time?

David Cage:
After [Indigo Prophecy], we spent a lot of time reading reviews and players' feedback on forums. We also had our own ideas about what worked and what didn't. First and foremost, I think we have a much stronger script in Heavy Rain. Although it was more complex to write, I think the characters have real substance, and the story should be emotionally involving. I also tried to evoke themes rarely used in games, which should be one

Resident Evil 5 Package Details - System WarsYesterday
Those gamers who own both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 may have a hard time deciding system to purchase Resident Evil 5 on when it releases in March. Each system will receive their own bonus item in addition to the game.

PlayStation 3 owners will ship with a "Making of" video that will show the process that went into creating Resident Evil 5. The video will be included on all copies of the game.

Xbox 360 owners will have a soundtrack of select Resident Evil 5 songs and will come in a metal case. There are a limited number of copies of the Xbox 360 version. Those who pick up the game after the initial run will only receive the game.

If you're fortunate enough to live in Japan, or enjoy importing, a very limited edition version is available (pictured above). This version will come in a larger case, include a 2GB thumb drive that looks like a vial from the game, a 32-page art book, and a waist pouch. More details on this edition can be found at Kotaku.

Evolving Battlefield: HeroesYesterday
While they aren't working on new patches for Battlefield 2, the crew at DICE is working hard on the behind-the-scenes issues with Battlefield: Heroes. Heroes, as you may know, is the cartoony Battlefield inspired title that will be free-to-play when it's officially released.

The crew at Gamasutra had a chance to talk to producer, Aleksander Grondal, on what gamers can expect from Battlefield: Heroes.
And furthering the MMO comparison, you have character abilities too?

AG:
Yeah. You trigger them, and they have a refresh timer, and it's very MMO-y, in a sense. I think it can appeal to an MMO crowd. They need to get around the mindset that this isn't one persistent world that they're in, but I think they can get into that.

It will be interesting to see if we see those types of demographics also playing our game. We built a game where you can be a bit social in the game, if you will, with the emotes — being sort of silly about it, instead of just going and shooting. There's more over at Gamasutra. Grondal discusses how they aren't forcing game types on to the player, why they have taken such a drasticly different approach to the gameplay and graphics, and how the beta players respond to the game.

New Battlefield 2 Patch by ChristmasYesterday
If the statements made by DICE are to be believed, and they should be, a new patch for Battlefield 2 may be just around the corner. The 1.5 patch is said to begin open testing at some point before Christmas.

We have spent time looking into the attacks and implemented short term solutions with the help of GameSpy to limit the impact of stats padding and leaderboard abuse. Other issues have been found to be game and server based, which is where Update 1.50 comes in. what Battlefield 2 1.50 will contain a number of security updates, including the following:

Server crashing - We have worked with the issues causing servers to crash, which has caused problems for the community (especially those who rent ranked servers).
Name/ID spoofing - Extra steps have been implemented to ensure the soldier being used belongs to the right account.
Commander assets - This is to stop the excessive spawning of multiple crates, UAVs or vehicles.Note that the patch will hopefully begin testing before Christmas, nothing is set in stone just yet. We'll have more details as they're made available.
