- Rackspace Fanatical Support: Not Such a Fanatical Opening Trading DayAugust 8
-
Rackspace started trading today on the New York Stock Exchange. The ticker symbol is RAX. Initially San Antonio based Rackspace planned on raising 400 million, but due to market conditions, they ended up raising a total around $187 million at $12.50 a share. This would value the company around $1.45 billion. Goldman Sachs, Merrill Lynch and Credit Suisse were some of the underwriters of this offering.
Upon opening of the trading day, things did not go well for the new IPO, and the stock traded as low as $9.75. Seeing how poorly a well established company, with $362 million in revenue last year like RAX stock traded, should really have other companies looking to make the move onto an exchange thinking twice. The time is obviously not ripe for IPO’s. Now is the time to be fostering and building upon your current business, and not spending the fees associated with putting your company into the publics hands.
My experiences with Rackspace have been beyond exceptional. I recommend Rackspace to everyone I can, since I am confident their support is the best. Rackspace claims they give fanatical service, and fanatical might be an understate
- Don’t Pay For Email: Google Apps, A Beginner’s GuideAugust 7
-
One of the first things I ask a company when they come to me for consulting is, who handles your email? Approximately 7 out of 10 say GoDaddy, NetworkSolutions, or one of the other domain registries. This baffles me, time and time again. It’s astonishing that a company/corporation would settle for some type of web based email, let alone one that they have to pay for!A little unknown service offered by Google, is called Google Apps. In Google Apps there is an email program, that allows you to use your company URL but receive emails through gmail. I use it for every single one of my websites currently. Setting up the app to work with your company URL is simple and should take you less then 5 minutes to complete. With a simple change of the MX information you are almost done. Although there is a verification process, to validate that the URL is, in fact yours, you usually can have the email up and running within the hour.
Since there are too many amazing features to highlight during this article, I will only focus on a few of them. Google Apps lets you set up to 100 di
- iPhone 3G - Not Chargeable In The CarAugust 6
-
Yesterday I walked by the Apple store in Boca Raton, Florida and was shocked to see no line out the door finally. I proceeded in and asked if they had the new iPhone 3G in stock, and they did! Since there are reviews already throughout the entire world on the actual iPhone, I will not be repetitive and review it again. Especially since I had to go back to the store 3 times to try and figure out why my phone kept locking up. What I want to focus on here is the car charger. When I bought my car, I was psyched to find that it came with a built in iPhone/iPod connection. This connection was supposed to play and charge my devices. It has been working beautifully for the last 4 months. That was until I got my new iPhone 3G!Upon plugging in my new iPhone 3G, I was greeted with a crazy message on the screen informing me that my phone would not charge with this adapter. I initially thought it could be a firmware problem. Upon reading some message boards this is not likely a firmware issue. It appears that my older iPhone (the original one) charged via a Firewire pin out. The new 3G can only support USB 2.0, which means it totally breaks compatibility with many of Apples other devices. This 16gb iPhone I got, was some
- Thoughts From Un-Social Media Camp MiamiAugust 3
-
Yesterday I headed down to Miami and attended Social Media Camp. This event was scheduled to coincide with Mashable’s summer tour stop in Miami. After partaking in several Bar Camp style get togethers in the past, I had high hopes for this Miami event as well. I guess with hope always comes disappointment. We arrived to the venue late, only to find we hadn’t missed anything yet, except for getting free t-shirts. The opening remarks start about 45 minutes late, and were given by Erica O’grady. She is awesome, and definitely had a friendly aura about her.
For those in the crowd that actually chose to listen instead of surfing the web and posting twitter remarks about irrelevant stuff, Erica brought up some decent points. What I learned from her speech was that if you want to make money on your site you need to combine two important buzz words. Green, and Social Media. Therefore, a tremendously sucessful blog would be about doing social media in a more green way. 8-) Erica defines Social Media as the word of mouth or community based marketing that leverages technology as a platform for conversations. - Who Needs Cheat Codes For Games When You Can Get Free Phones Instead?August 1
-
Ed. Note: This post may be a little off-topic, but who doesn’t like free phones?

Over the years I have been using many sites to get cheat codes for games, and discount codes for items. Sites like slickdeals and bargainist offer great coupon codes and alerts for items on sale. This got me thinking into how these members find the items before others. Apparently many of the members are just crazy about finding sales, and discounts and post them as they get circulars. Others seem to get friends and family codes from someone on the inside. After researching many avenues, trying to find out if I could provide a tremendous discount code, I recently uncovered a way for regular folks to get a free Sidekick with activation on T-Mobile. All that you have to do is identify yourself as a jetBlue employee, which has friends and family program. You must call 866-464-8662 and use option 3. The promotion
