FuneralDecember 28 2009
The funeral was ... I don't know if nice was the word I would use but it was a fitting tribute to my Grandfather.

Family who I hadn't seen in such a long time was there, many of whom I hadn't seen since my great grandmother died on my Gd side and my Great Grandfathers funeral on my Grans side.

Many of them I did not recognize. The faces out in the crowd were there for one thing, to honor a man.

"I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him" There was plenty of mourning but there was also much praise. The pastor also got in his recruitment speech about how we should all go to church because that's what he would want.

My grandfather never seemed to go to church the whole time I was a kid, which shaped me more than I usually like to admit. My grandfather in a lot of ways was the only father figure I had in my life growing up and I grew so much more outside his influence than inside it. Truth be told I would not have attended his funeral if it wern;t for my gran, I feel so sad for her, home alone, something she has rarely been since the 40's.

What must it be like to wake up knowing the your loved one will never walk through that door again, never sit with you at the dinner table, never watch shows with you. It makes me weep for the loss she has suffered. If I only had one wish, one true wish, in all its magical glory, I would wish my grandmother full health and happiness. But this wish would not be as selfless as it sounds. I a

How to be a good republicanNovember 15 2009
# You have to believe that 8 years of national prosperity was due to the work of Ronald Reagan and George Bush but that, yesterday’s gas prices is all Obama’s fault.

# You have to believe that those privileged from birth achieve success all on their own.

# You have to be against government programs, but expect Social Security checks on-time.

# You have to believe that government should stay out of people’s lives, except to regulate opposite-gender marriages, what your official language should be, and what form of birth control, if any, you should use.

# You have to believe that pollution is ok, as long as it makes a profit.

# You have to believe in prayer in schools, as long as you don’t pray to Allah or Buddha.

# You have to believe that only your own teenagers are still virgins.

# You have to believe that a woman cannot be trusted with decisions about her own body but that large multinational corporations should have no regulation or interference whatsoever.

# You love Jesus and Jesus loves you and, by the way, Jesus shares your hatred of AIDS victims, homosexuals, and President Obama.

# You have to believe that society is colorblind and, growing up black in America doesn’t diminish your opportunities, but you still won’t vote for Alan Keyes.

# You have to believe that it was wise to allow Ken Starr to spend $50 million dollars to attack Clinton because

DinnerOctober 22 2009
I am here taking care of my mom. She can't get around really well and she doesn't cook. So I grilled some steaks, steamed some fresh asparagus, and made some dinner rolls. She seemed to like them. If anyone has some steamer recipes send them to me and I'll post them here on my blog
