- The Hen HouseNovember 12
-

On Monday night, a few friends and I headed to the Hen House for some waffles & fried chicken. This menu gives you so many options (type of waffle, butter, syrup, chicken, and sauce) that it can be a bit overwhelming. I ended up getting the buttermilk waffle, cajun butter, maple syrup, whole pieces of chicken (rather than wings or tenders), and buffalo hot sauce on the side ($7.49).
Others at the table got similar plates with some different options. We all liked our meal a lot, but no one cared for the sauces. So, when you choose your sauce, get it on the side.
Besides the sauces, everything else ranged from good to delicious. The waffles were good and slightly crisp, the cajun butter was tasty, the syrup was your average grocery store quality, and the chicken breasts and legs were very meaty and nicely fried (although the skin was a bit too chewy).
The meal was definitely a fun one, the food was good, the prices were great, and we were all extreme
- Armenian Fest in WatertownNovember 10
-

Okay, I’m taking a break from my sandwich kick to write a quick post about the 52nd Armenian Bazaar which took place last weekend at the Armenian Cultural & Educational Center in Watertown.
The fest took place on Friday and Saturday. We made it just before they stopped serving food on Saturday. Luckily, right when we got there, we headed for the Soujouk sign. We thought that we were getting soujouk that was ready to be eaten, but, to our surprise, we got something much better. The soujouk that they were selling weighed a few pounds, was in a muslin bag, and was ready for us to finish the curing process by hanging in our fridge for a few weeks. We got the last one that they had ($25). I’ll post an update in a few weeks after we try it.
Next, we got our ticket for the food. As those of you who frequent fests like this one, you know that the food is almost always delicious, but that it is hardly ever a bargain. Since we spent most of our cash on the soujouk, we decided to split one plate. We got a combination of Losh and Lamb ($13). I’ve never had Losh before. It is burger like, made from ground lamb (I think), and is packed full of spices and parsley. It was quite good, but the lamb was the best thing on the plate. It was cooked to perfection.

- Fiore’s Bakery - Breakfast SandwichNovember 8
-

I have to work one Saturday a month. While I am not a fan of working on a weekend, and am quite cranky when I do wake up, the one thing that I do look forward to is Fiore’s.
While I am a huge fan of bacon, egg, & cheese sandwiches on an english muffin, they are no longer my favorite when it comes to a breakfast sandwich. Over the last few months, I’ve become addicted to the Crossaint Turkey & Swiss sandwich at Fiore’s. While the sandwich is pretty small, and sort of expensive for what it is (around $3.00), my working Saturdays would just not be complete without one.

A month or two ago, PK and I had to get rid of some old gas and oil that I had from a few projects that I am working on (an old Vespa Scooter and a Puch Moped). Since the hazardous waste drop off location wasn’t far from Dorchester Ave., we decided to head to Euromart to get lunch and some sausage to grill.
We split a large Polish Combo Sandwich. (I forgot how much it cost, but it was around $5.) This was delicious. The sandwich was huge, and the quality of the meats was excellent.
We also got some of their freshly made pierogi . They had two different kinds. (One was filled with potato and I believe that the other one was filled with sauerkraut.) We cooked them in butter with sauteed onions, and they were fantastic. I’m not sure which one I liked more.
They also had something that looked like a meatloaf in a rectangular tin. The woman behind the counter told me that it was like a pork meatloaf. It had a good taste so I bought one (Pieczen Rzymska $4.99/lb). While I liked it, I probably wouldn’t get it again.

- Francesca’s Espresso BarOctober 22
-

Before heading to the Belgian Beer Fest several weeks back, PK and I were planning to have one last meal at King Fung Garden’s Chinatown location. (I’m still sad about the fact they are now under new ownership.) Unfortunately, we did not get motivated early enough so we decided to get a quick lunch somewhere a bit closer. We decided to keep it cheap so we went to Francesca’s Espresso Bar.
Since we were planning on getting a few waffles during the fest, we split the Tuscan Chicken Sandwich (chicken, prosciutto, pesto, provolone, and spinach; $7.50) and a Raspberry Lime Rickey ($2.50). For $7.50, we got a good deal. The quality of the ingredients were great, and after eating my half, I was close to full. So, if you are not too hungry, half a sandwich and a dessert should be enough food. Oh, the Raspberry Lime Rickey was delicious! Almost as good as the old Spar’s rickeys.
Verdict: A very good sandwich and a great (but pricey) Rasberry Lime Ric
