News and updates about Dropbox

Meet the Team! (Part 4)July 20

Hi everyone! This edition of ‘Meet the Team’ introduces you to Rajiv Eranki. Rajiv grew up in Buffalo and, no surprise here– graduated from MIT before moving out to San Francisco. Rajiv currently devotes his time to making sure Dropbox’s servers run as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Tell us about your programming background– how’d you get into it?

I loved computer games as a kid, so I learned programming as a way to try to build them. I used to build a lot of stupid little games in Apple’s HyperCard, like “Slay the Peasant,” which involved killing the same little sprite over and over with an arsenal of weapons by clicking on the screen.

In high school I learned Perl and C so I could explore other things, like building websites and 3D programming. The nice thing about programming as a hobby is that it doesn’t cost anything to explore new things.

How’d you join dropbox and why’d you choose it over finishing your masters?

I really wasn’t enjoying doing a Masters, and I’m amazed that it took me so long to figure it out. I guess I just figured that misery was part of the austere life an academic is supposed to lead.

I knew Aston and Arash from school, and they had showed me this cool project called Dropbox that they were working on

I’m just going to leave these here…May 4

Whew, glad I got that off my chest. We know it’s been a long time in the making, but we’re super stoked about releasing all this stuff to you. Sorry for being so secretive!

To expand a bit, we’re announcing the release of our iPad and Android apps (available in the Store and Market, respectively) and the confirmation of our Blackberry app (out quite soon!). We’ve also got a shiny new Dropbox mobile API and developer program, and the announcement of some awesome partner apps that work amazingly with Dropbox.

Huge props go out to Will and Brian (iPad devs), Tom (Android dev) and Zed (API) for their hard work the past few weeks to get these out. These guys all deserve a huge vacation. Enjoy!

Dropbox is going places!April 27

Join Dropbox in San Francisco on May 4th – and see something new!

If you’re local or in town for the Web 2.0 Expo, we’d love to see you at our Dropbox event on Tuesday May 4th at 7:30.  Good news – there will be an open bar! Bad news – this is a press event, so while we’ll try our best to fit as many people as possible (its not a very big space), press and bloggers will get priority. More good news – since this is a launch event, you can expect some new Dropbox goodies around then.  If you want to be the first to see exactly what we’ve got in store, you’ll have to come see for yourself ;) .

Moving right alongApril 22

Hey everyone,

We’ve moved! After two years of working in our first office, it was finally time to move into a place that could better fit the 22 people we’ve added since then :) .

Here are a few pictures of our old shack (we were clearly in need of breathing room).

and now, our new crib! Awwww yeeah.

We’ll be sure to post more pics once our furniture gets in!

Speaking of adding new people, we’d like to welcome Tom Meyer (dedicated Android developer), Dan Wheeler (multi-team handyman) and Tom Hoover (client team member) to the Dropbox team as full-timers!

Our office isn’t the only thing that’s moved at Dropbox– we have a smorgasbord of features that are currently rapidly moving forward in developm

The Dropbox Android App!March 22

In Dropbox’s two year history, we’ve had some ardent fans salivating over the next killer Dropbox feature. We love these people!

Our first huge feature following (and birthplace of our Dropbox poetry tradition) was our Linux version, which was soon followed by the highly anticipated iPhone app. However, we’d like to think that the fervor behind a certain upcoming feature speaks for itself:

“Android app, please, please, please!! Yes, Yes!”
“Android! Android! Android! Android! :D
“Yes Android please! I need this app, like a grindylow needs water.”
“and i need this app like desert needs the rain.”
“DO WANT! ANDROID DROPBOX … YES YES YES1!!!”
“Desperatly want to complete my assimilation by the droid.”
“I WILL SELL MY BABY DAUGHTER FOR ANDROIDBOX”

You get the point. So without further ado, I’m proud to share some info and a few screenshots of the Dropbox Android app that we’ve been working on.
