Raising Money out of Thin Air: Charities and Not-for-Profits should take note of TweetsgivingNovember 27

A Project like Tweetsgiving is an example of how a charity can use social media platforms, in this case, twitter, for fund raising. Imagine being able to raise US$ 10,000 in a 48 hour period from hundreds of people who contributed $5 and $10 dollars whose only connection with a charity was when they discovered the fund raising efforts because of one of their friends on twitter?

Imagine what can be done with more established charities. I believe micro giving promoted on social media networks can have a positive impact on fund raising in the weeks, months and years ahead. Not-for-Profits should take note of this and the work of : Beth Kantor, Rebecca Bollwitt, Stacey Monk and others who are pioneering this field as they can benefit directly as they discover and learn how to properly leverage social media and the passion people have for their respective charities.

Do you suffer from Idea Heartburn?November 24

Have you ever found yourself thinking about something, getting distracted and then finding yourself exploring that same idea again and again and yet again?

If this sounds familiar to you, then you may be suffering from what I call: Idea Heartburn.

The ideas that keep on repeating on you will eventually demand your attention. The sooner you focus on the idea and take action, the quicker the idea will stop giving you idea heartburn.

The only medicine I know for Idea Heartburn is acting on the idea.

Act on the right idea, and it could change your life. Act on the wrong idea, and well, it might create actual heartburn and more. But before I discourage anyone following their own ideas, I need to mention I am someone would much rather have tried something and failed then not tried at all.

Minneapolis, Minnesota, the 17th City for my Breakfasts in 2008November 21

Since January, I have hosted 31 breakfasts in 17 cities (Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston (2), Chicago (2) Miami (2), New York (7), Princeton, Providence, Philadelphia, San Francisco, San Jose, Seattle, Tel Aviv (5 + Airport City), Toronto, Vancouver, Washington DC) around the world. Yesterday morning, I hosted a breakfast in my 17th city of the year, Minneapolis, Minnesota.

I enjoyed visiting Minneapolis, Minnesota, and hosting a Breakfast with Jeff Pulver (and Friends) at Sandy's Place, at Best Buy, corporate headquarters. Special thanks to Best Buy for sponsoring the event. (I also enjoyed catching up with the statue of Mary Taylor Moore but that will be covered in a future blog post.)

I enjoyed introducing real-time social tagging to everyone at breakfast yesterday which also included members of Social Media Breakfast - Twin Cities. Ive added Minneapolis as a city to return to host another breakfast in and to bring the Social Media Jungle road show tour to. Special thanks to everyone who came out for the event.

For the first time at any of my breakfasts, I took the liberty to speak at the event. I wasnt planning on speaking but I did. And instead of speaking about some of the technology trends on my mind these days, which in retrospect I would have enjoyed doing, I shared a brief story of my life and my personal discover of what it means to f

Call for Speakers: [Tele]Vision! II - Another Peek into the Future of TVNovember 19

On December 18th, 2008 Dror Gill and I are hosting a session about the future of TV at the Garage Geeks in Holon, Israel This is the second time such an event takes place - for coverage of the first event, see http://www.blonde2dot0.com/blog/2007/05/01/a-peak-into-the-future-of-tv/ and http://www.degardener.com/2007/04/30/jeff-pulver-garagegeeks-notes-on-the-future-of-tv/

We are looking for innovative people who are willing to share their vison about the future of TV. We are looking for pure vision, based on your own experience and analysis, and not company pitches. However, you may give examples of specific companies or products if they are relevant to your topic. For example: Who will be the big winners and losers in TV of the future? How are the current business models and value chain going to change? Will everyone become content producers? How will mobile devices be used in consumption of TV? What will be the role of studios, production companies, Internet brands, TV channels and TV service providers in the future?

The format we are proposing for this event is as follows: Each person will speak for 5 minutes, and then lead a discussion for 5 minutes based on the topic and views presented. We prefer to have a "powerpoint free zone
