The Future of Corporate WebsitesJune 29

Jeremiah has asked a wonderful questions on his blog: “What is the future of corporate websites in 5 years?” He asked this and a few more related questions in connection with a small competition, which is already over, but I would love to also write something about it nevertheless.

To be honest - until now I have never really thought about this question and I would suggest that also a lot of companies and agencies in Germany haven’t really thought in this direction, yet.

Sure, a lot of people are thinking about how to cope with the groundswell. But right now that means, that most people are thinking about solutions like: setting up a blog, being present on social network sites, creating a twitter account and creating virals for Youtube.

They all think about solutions which imply, that they are doing something new, that they are present elsewhere, that they add something to the existing - but very few are already thinking about how to change the existing: the corporate website.

It’s about the people first

Jeremiah’s headline of his second post was:

Conference Speaker vs. Video BloggerJune 28

Well - I am kind of frustrated right now, (but this isn’t a pity post btw) because I always make the same bad experiences with program managers of conferences. I send them my proposals, what I would like to talk about on their conferences, they are most of the times enthusiastic and tell me that they would love to have this topic on their conference.

But then - nothing happens. Of course every conference is a business and as long I am not a very well known person or working for a very well known company - I am in a bad position and will only fill the gaps, which might have been left a few days/weeks before the conference starts.

But not anymore - I have made a decision!

Example: Web2.0Expo Berlin

The best example is I guess the Web2.0Expo in Berlin. I had the chance last year to do a talk about “Metaverse Marketing” and I am sure that I was one of those last minute stopgaps last year. Well - I was lucky and maybe had some help from friends to get selected as a speaker.

My talk was quite good and I recieved awesome feedback from the audience. I not only got a lot of great new connections, but also have been voted as one of the top5 speakers of the conference. #1 Kathy Sierra, #2 Don Tapscott, #3 Tom Coates, #4 Sebastian Küpers - woooooot - #5 Jesse James Gerett.

And this year? They are ignoring me totally. Sure - I am still not a very well known person or working for a very well known company and you don’t d

The South African BlogosphereJune 28

I haven taken a closer look at the South African blogosphere the last days and I thought it would be good idea to share my findings with you. For me - as a German blogger - it was pretty interesting to discover the blogosphere of another country and to compare it with what is happening in Germany.

amatomu - the south african blogosphere, sorted

After I had the idea to investigate the South African blogosphere (the reason why comes at the end of this post) I quickly discovered the awesome website amatomu, which is done by the mail&guardian online, a popular south african news site.

The Mail & Guardian Online was the first internet-based news publications in Africa. Launched in early 1994, it is one of South Africa’s and Africa’s major news publishers and is reputed internationally for its quality content.

Amatomu provides you with tons of informations about the south african blogosphere. You have a huge directory of round about 2400 weblogs, sorted by different categories like “news&politics”, “business”, “technology”, “entertainment”, “media&marketing”, “sport”, “life”, “humor” and “reli

And there it is: the official pixelsebi logoJune 27

Well - the name “pixelsebi” is an composition of “pixel” and the German shortcut of my first name “Sebastian”, which is “Sebi”. It started as a joke in spring 2006 and when I have started blogging with this domain, I never expected that this word would become my new nickname in real-life and everywhere on the web.

I started blogging with nearly no readers and after a few months I organized the very first Barcamp in Germany. During the Barcamp I noticed to my surprise what I had triggered: everybody was calling me “pixelsebi”. I was shocked and my whole family was amused about that, because they knew that it originally was intended as a joke.

And now, after more than two years of blogging and being “pixelsebi”, I have decided to make this nickname a brand and therefore I needed a logo. It has been designed by kosmar and will come in different versions.

The most important one is of course a version for this blog and as soon I have figured out, how to change it in this template it will be at the top of this blog. I hope you like it :)

My new superheroJune 24

My new superhero is - Kung Fu Panda - just for the record!

He not only looks cool and is an superior Kung Fu master - I also just got a few special items from him on Gaia Online, he has a cool multiplayer online game, he of course has a very nice website, he has an awesome animated comic book with the background story for this movie and he has a widget to bring him on Facebook, MySpace, other social networking sites and even on your blog!

Ah - and he is pretty funny :)
