What Can I Build?November 21

Ahead of the impending launch next week of our new channel system I thought I would share the work of our designer Daniel who has been busy at work creating base templates and themes. In my previous post about our Layout Editor I showed how easy it was to build new layouts. The screenshot below shows the results and how amazingly customizable the system really is (this channel was built in 4 hours).

All will be revealed next week so keep an eye on the blog and on my twittering.

Channel Layout Editor PreviewOctober 13

We were giving the first ever public preview of our new channel feature at Future of Web Apps last week and because FOWA is very developer orientated we had a LOT of interest in our new editor, so just as a sneak peak I recorded a quick demonstration of our fully web based (not flash!) widget layout editor.

Lookout later in the week for full details of how the editor works with the rest of the system and what this is going to mean for brands, blogs and for the future of fav.or.it

Death Star DiggnationOctober 13

We are all just about recovered from the Future of Web Apps conference last week, a big thanks to the carsonified team for putting together such a great event. Our request to build a Lego Death Star worked and we had a wide range of cool people helping our own team finish it before the end of the show.

I suddenly decided that it would be really cool if we could get our Lego Death Star on Diggnation which was being recorded after the show finished. I met up with Alex Albrecht just before the show started and suggested they give it away during the show. The results…

Help us build a Lego Death StarSeptember 24

We will be launching the next major phase of fav.or.it at Future of Web Apps this year. We have got a stand at the show and we wanted to come up with a theme that matched (if slightly loosely) with what we are launching. I won’t give away too much today on the launch except that it revolves around ‘channel building’. So I put on my marketing head for all of 5 seconds and decided that buying the biggest bit of Lego and get people onto the stand to help us build it would be a good idea.

Lego Death Star

So what is cooler than Lego? Lego AND Star Wars. I remembered reading a GIZMODO post about a massive Lego Death Star, found that it is not available in the UK but after a very small amount of digging found that Amazon UK sold it via one of their partners. So two days ago I ordered it, and below are the pictures of the unboxing.

Build It

We will be taking it along to FOWA and everyone can come along to the stand and help us build it. It is made up of over 3500+ pieces and the manual is like the haynes manual for the space shuttle, so this thing i

I think sometimes that fav.or.it has been very lucky in some respects in falling on our feet with companies (and people) that have given us massive support over the last year, one of those is Sun Microsystems. We have been apart of the Sun Startup Essentials program since Future of Web Apps last year which has given us access to a lot of cheap enterprise level equipment (Servers Etc..) and also brilliant technical support when we have needed it.

Competition

So I was very please to hear that Sun are giving away a Stand at FOWA as a prize this year. All you have to do is join startup essentials which is worth joining anyway. A draw will take place on the 22nd September and the lucky winner will be informed on the 23rd.

Launch

We will also be exhibiting this year and this time round we will be launching a major addition to the site (more on that closer to the time). The cost of exhibiting is £2500 which is high for a lot of startups (especially if your very heavily boot strapped
