We're still staying in Florida with Leit's cousin B., who lives in a brand new development that is still only half built. The neighbors put on a pig roast and bonfire last night in one of the empty lots. It was an interesting mix -- most people have been here six months or less, so nobody really knows each other yet. There were several young families who went home pretty early, leaving the over-35 crowd and their teenagers to keep the vigil.

One of the greatest signs of the lack of cohesion among the group was that nobody could come up with music that everyone liked. We had some hard rock, then some '80s pop, then a bit of Latin music, and finally the kids took over with a lot of rap that made me feel old. I just don't feel much like singing along with the N-word, you know? But people were friendly and the roast pig was fantastic and there were lots of good pot-luck sides and drinks. It was clear that some of the neighbors were big-time tailgaters for the Buccaneers, and they had canopies and folding tables and coolers and all the right equipment. The guy who was tending the fire was very quiet and competent, dressed in a sweatshirt that said ARMY. I was fascinated to watch him feeding in the big logs and the small kindling and keeping everything blazing all night.

This morning was quiet and sunny and all our clothes smelled of smoke. I've got a cold, and stayed home to sleep it off while Leit and B. headed down for a last visit to the folks. It's reall
