Yahoo and AOL releases the top searches for 2008Today

Search engines Yahoo and AOL has released the top searches for the current year. In Yahoo, Barrack Obama topped the category of Politicians and Michael Phelps gained the top spot in Olympians. In AOL, NASCAR topped the sports category and iPhone stayed at the top in Shopping Category. In news category Hurricanes was the top search where as Presidential Elections remained at the top in AOL.

CNN catering to Newspapers in financial crunchToday

CNN is reportedly offering a wire service to offer a helping hand to newspapers in financial distress. Though the trial version of CNN’s wire service has been on display in some newspapers, but only this week the project shall kick off in Atlanta. CNN will address some 30 newspaper editors and share its plans to broaden coverage of national and international events, better than The Associated Press.

With this effort CNN goes up against the largest news-gathering operation in the world: The Associated Press - a non-profit corp. owned by the 1,400 newspapers (members). Though with it high costs some newspapers intend to leave The A.P. On the upcoming CNN Wire, president of CNN Worldwide, Jim Walton states:

The reality is we don’t have a lot of relationships with newspapers.

Firefox has gained almost 20% browser marketshare since 2005 at the expense of IE. In late 2004 IE was used by almost 92% of the Internet population, but is now used by around 69.88% of the users - down around 22%. Firefox on the other hand was used by less than 3% of the population back in late 2004, but is now the browser of choice of around 21% users – which is a gain of roughly 18%.
