DVR Viewing: New! And Improved! Now With More Numbers!
Starting this week, I’m going to be presenting more DVR data in these weekly posts and in a slightly different format. From now on I will post all three measures of a show’s audience we see on a regular basis, Live viewing, Live+SD viewing and Live+7 viewing. Then I will calculate the number of viewers by DVR on the Same Day (as telecast until 3am), and Total DVR viewers (within 7 days of telecast), as well as the % of viewing on the Same Day and the % of Total viewing by DVR. Note that in the past I calculated the increase in viewing from Live to Live+7 via DVR. You can still do that from this data, but I thought presenting the numbers in this way would be more interesting to more people. In the future, I’ll have some pithy insights on these new numbers, but now I’m just going to rest.
The two tables will still show exactly the same shows as under the old posts, Top 20 shows by Total DVR viewing, and Top 20 Shows By % of DVR Viewing (although in the past it was By Increase via DVR viewing, it works out to be exactly the same shows in the same order).
For the week of November 10-16, ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy again had the largest audience via DVR viewing with 4.239 million viewers via DVRs. Fox’s House was second with a DVR viewing audience of 3.958 million. Rounding out the top ten for the largest DVR audiences were Office, Desperate Housewives, CSI, Fringe, Heroes, Survivor: Gabon, Bone

December 3, 2008 (Burbank, CA) - The CW Network has set its midseason schedule, featuring new episodes of its scripted series and the premiere of the scare-fest reality series “13 - Fear Is Real.”
The CW’s smash hit Monday lineup returns on January 5, with new episodes of sophomore sensation “GOSSIP GIRL” (8:00-9:00p.m. ET), followed by fan favorite “ONE TREE HILL” (9:00-10:00p.m. ET).
Two freshman series return to the Tuesday lineup on January 6 with new episodes of this season’s most buzzed-about series, “90210″ (8:00-9:00p.m. ET), leading into the critical hit “PRIVILEGED” (9:00-10:00p.m. ET).
The new Wednesday night schedule kicks off on January 7, featuring the premiere of new horror/reality series “13 - FEAR IS REAL” (8:00-9:00p.m. ET), in which 13 people compete to “stay alive” while facing their deepest fears in an all-out elimination competition and scare-fest. - Fans Should Enjoy Life, Terminator, Knight Rider While They CanYesterday

The Renew or Cancel Index is updated on a weekly basis, if you’re reading this after December 9, 2008 click here to see the latest list.
Now that we’ve settled into the hoilday TV doldrums, there is unlikely to be much action for quite some time on show cancellations or renewals. New shows will be introduced to the network lineups beginning in January and we’ll begin tracking them and their chances when they do, but until then all we can do is look at the marginal shows that survived past mid-season and forecast their chances today for renewal for 2009-10.
These categories are my guesses that may deviate a bit from the numbers in the Index, as I try and do a bit of fortune telling.
Prognosis Negative: Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles, Life, Gary Unmarried, Prison Break, Knight Rider, The Unit.
Fans of Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles and Life hope new timeslot opportunities save them, I highly doubt they will. Gary Unmarried likely doesn’t get the “veteran benefit of the doubt” that Christine *may* get. Besides Prison Break’s bad ratings, it’s rumored to be on the way out. Only a ridiculously good
