The happenings of my law school quest and
an examination of current intersections between the law & Christianity.

I survived!December 20 2008
I have completed my first semester of law school unscathed! It was stressful at times, but equally as enjoyable.

Don't think you can trick me into give you my grades, because I won't, good or bad. So don't assume that if I don't post, I have bad grades. If I had a 4.0, I wouldn't tell you, lest some fellow student stumble upon this site and begin to resent me.

But I will rank my classes as to how I think they went, from best to worst.

Legal Research
Contracts
Criminal
Torts
Civil Procedure

I felt least prepared for Torts because, which is ironic because it was at the end. But it also had the most information. I felt surprisingly good about the Criminal exam. And the Civil Procedure exam was pure torture, being closed book and all. But the thing is... my fellow students felt the same way, so I don't think that there is an advantage or disadvantage on any of these exams!

I'm used to getting my grades before Christmas... but not this year! I have to wait until the end of January. It's going to be tough starting a new semester not having a clue where I stand!

My blogging will be sketchy at best over the next few weeks with holidays and all. So do not despair, all 10 of my readers (haha), if I do not blog again this year. I shall try!

I did want to comment on the recent auto bailout situation. As the bulk of my readers will know, Congress failed to bailout Main Street, even

Weekend Subject MatterDecember 8 2008
OK, I caught up on my reading from last week so that I can focus entirely on my studies during the upcoming week!

If you all thought that the election was over a month ago... it really wasn't. There was some drama here in the Congressional district in Columbus of which I am not part of. The Democrat Kilroy beat the Republican Stivers by a narrow majority. There were legal battles involved, and the Ohio Supreme Court made a ruling favorable to Stivers, but he still lost. There will be no recount. Also, in Georgia, the Republican won a contested Senate seat meaning that the Democrats did not pick up the filibuster-proof 60 seats in the Senate.

We're used to reading the words of Jesus in red in our Bibles. What would green letters mean? In The Green Bible, verses talking about creation are in green. This goes along with what I've been saying all along - we don't need fear-mongering about Global Warming, we as Christians need to care about what God created!

Some of us were probably wondering whether OJ Simpson was ever going to go to jail. Well, he is. I still remember watching the trial on TV. In sixth grade, one teacher

I had an opportunity to watch the documentary by a Jewish man, Ben Stein, entitled Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed. The goal of the DVD was not to push intelligent design over evolution, but rather to ask for fair treatment of intelligent design in the name of academic freedom. He talks to several people who've lost their jobs as a result of researching or mentioning intelligent design. He talks to some proponents of intelligent design and some prominent evolutionists. He addresses the religious aspect of intelligent design, and evolution for that matter, but that is not the crux of the documentary. It is not trying to push Christian Creationism, so I think that adds credibility.

The best part of the documentary is the last half hour or so. At no point does Stein present evidence that evolution is false, again adding credibility. He does, however, show the animosity that several evolutionists feel towards, including Professor Richard Dawkins reading out of his book about his opinion of the Old Testament God. It was amazing that Stein got Professor Dawkins to admit that maybe we were seeded here by design on earth by intelligent aliens... but defini

Old NewsSeptember 27 2008
I'm back! I can't believe it's been 10 days since I've posted. It's been an interesting couple of weeks, and it's also been what I originally imagined law school to be like... class and reading until bed! But don't feel sorry for me, because I visited my best friend last weekend, had lunch with my family, and have a visitor this weekend. When I gave blood before school started, I got a free Cedar Point ticket, so I definitely have to take advantage of that, so I'm going to go tomorrow with a friend from work.

6 weeks in, the reading is still interesting, and I think I'm starting to pick out what's important more easily.

I've also had a lot of "work" with the 1L Moot Court Governing Board deal. I've had to call and email a bunch of attorneys to get them to judge next week at the Negotiations Competition. And that we have to help next week to setup, cleanup, get people signed in and to the right place, etc. I also have my first exam next week, in Legal Research. It's not going to be a huge deal, but it's my first law school grade, eh?

This week I also attended an etiquette dinner. It was pretty interesting learning how to eat properly in a formal setting. The attorney that sat at our table told us that they're not going to care if we pass food the right way during interviews and events, just that we're able to present ourselves in public. I was also talking to a friend and he said (and I agree) that if a firm won't hire us because we eat with th

Well, not like that. But I did get "cold" called on for the first time today. I was really surprised at how nervous and shaky I was... especially considering the class. It was criminal law, and it was just a few questions, not a long case brief. This professor is really nice. If you say anything stupid, she kind of repeats what you say, except says it correctly. Or she'll move on and ask something like, "Anybody else?"

Even so, it was nerveracking. Now that that's over with and I didn't make a fool of myself, I hope it'll be less nerveracking. But I still dread the day my card comes up in Torts...
