EliteXC Limbo: 77 Days and CountingJanuary 5

77 days ago, EliteXC closed shop after CBS pulled out of a deal to buy the company.  Within a week numerous fighters were talking about where they'd fight in the future, but over two months later they are still in limbo with no end in sight.

There have been numerous reports of a sale of Pro Elite, but it's been a while since we heard anything about the deal.  Pro Elite is a public company, it would be nearly impossible to keep the closing of a deal a secret.  Of course, when troubled companies try to sell, the deals often fall apart at the last minute as a result of due diligence and company representations.  It would not surprise me if that happened here.  Pro Elite is saddled with numerous public debts that nobody wants to take on, which is undoubtedly the biggest obstacle to a sale.

The real victims here, as usual, are the fighters.  They have now gone almost 3 months without the promise of any income, and the UFC won't touch them because of their uncertain contractual status.  There are a lot of villains in this situation, but fighter management has been shown yet again to be almost completely useless.  It's hard to imagine agents in any other field letting this happen to their clients.  Monte Cox, Ken Pavia, and whoever else manages these fighters need to come together and file a joint action for declaratory relief in California.  It will force Pro Elite to either put up or shut up about their future as a company instead of stringing these figh

Josh Koscheck to Face Paulo Thiago at UFC 95January 5

Here's a highlight reel of Paulo Thiago, the 7-0 (Tatame says 10-0) Brazilian who's being thrown in at the UFC deep end at UFC 95. He trains with Rani Yahya. Here's a quote from his coach via Tatame:

“We’re investing in his career for two years. Jungle Fight gave us a big chance and now we put him into UFC. Rani (Yahya) may only be back in March (at WEC), so the whole team is focused on his preparation. If he wins, maybe we’ll get the submission of the night bonuses”, celebrates Ataíde Junior, leader of the Constrictor Team.

Wanderlei Silva Looking for Another Shot at Chuck LiddellJanuary 5

Wanderlei Silva isn't terribly excited about potentially moving to middleweight.  In fact, he would rather score a rematch with Chuck Liddell in the near future.  From MMA Weekly:

"It’s my normal weight," he says of the light heavyweight class. "I never cut down too much weight for a fight. Maybe I go to fight one more time at light heavyweight, and after I go down."

To Silva, the fight that makes the most sense is a rematch with Chuck Liddell, who gave him a three-round slugfest at UFC 79. He lost the decision, but feels they put on another fight of the year.

"I am thinking I want to fight Chuck again," says Silva. "I want to fight with him again because I had a good match with him, and his style is a good style for me, and my style is good for him. It’s good for the show. Maybe it’s good for Dana."

However, Silva also stated that he's willing to do what Dana White deems best.  The first fight between Silva and Liddell was amazing.  I'm sure

Positive Review for UFC Undisputed 2009January 5

I admit to not being a video game player, but I understand just how monstrous and important the video game market actually is. It's still early and the game still doesn't have a release date, but one should not underestimate how significant this game could be on polishing or introducing the UFC image. To that end, there is real data that suggests gamers are older and have more disposable income than some may realize. Any success will depend highly on how the game actually plays and whether it appeals to gamers willing to embrace a new sport in a new game in a new year. So far: all signs point positive. Notable quote:

Enter UFC 2009 Undisputed, which should be the deepest, most realistic UFC title ever. Developed by WWE SmackDown! creators Yuke’s Media Creations and published by THQ, this year’s installment will stand out for a variety of reasons; namely, the use of amazingly fluid and authentic fighter renderings and animations, and an extraordinary level of detail throughout. If you’re a fan of Ultimate Fighting and you’re familiar with the television broadcasts, you’ll immediately feel at home when playing Undisputed, as it appears that Yuke’s spared no expense in recreating the experience of watching – and now, interacting with – the world’s most demanding and d
