- Resolve to do More of What Works for YouJanuary 2
-
There’s always something special about the start of a new year. As one year comes to a close and another starts, I especially enjoy taking stock, cleaning up details and preparing a fresh slate for another year of my life to unfold. As I reflect on the past year I am indeed grateful that I am still standing tall despite many challenges and economic uncertainty.
As I think about the constants in my life that seem to endure, regardless of what’s going on around me it quickly becomes obvious the factors that contribute to my overall satisfaction and success. Naturally, as I project myself into the next year, and what I want to experience and accomplish - it becomes clear that all I need to do is do more of what works and let go of what doesn’t.
So, forget resolutions, they don’t work anyway. Yes, I need to exercise more, but if I am feeling good about myself and I’m happy with my life, regardless of the circumstantial stress I may be feeling I naturally take better care of myself. Duh.
As this new year begins here’s what clearly works for me, and what I’m going to focus more on:
Remembering Gratitude - No matter how off balance I may be, returning to the simple practice of counting my blessing - my health, my business, my husband and children, always makes me feel better.
Connecting with Others - I live way out in the boonies and can get very isolated. Creating more opportunities to engage with people - family or friends alwa
- The Meaning of HopeJanuary 2

“If you feel you know how to get what you want out of life, and you have that desire to make that happen, then you have hope,” Jennifer Cheavens
Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about hope. It started the night our new President was elected. I, for the first time in a long time was filled with an overwhelming sense of hope. The deep thread of worry and cynicism I had been holding about how complex and unchangeable our countries problems were was suddenly replaced with the promise of something new, something hopeful.
Now, I realize it’s going to take a lot of hard work to really change the things that are broken, but regardless of what you or I believe politically, if you agree with Obama’s worldview or not, you have to admit that something profound happened. And that something is worth holding onto and nurturing.
I always thought a funny paradox existed within the concept of hope and frankly, I’ve been a bit cynical about it. People seem to strongly believe in either faith or action -they subscribe to the “law of attraction” or believe in bestsellers such as “The Secret”, or they would argue that hope is not the strategy - it’s only what you “do” that’s important. I suppose as a coach, it makes sense I would fall into the latter camp - my work is about helping people take action to make their lives better.
I invite you to try on this version instead - hope and faith ARE the positive result of taking acti

- Troubleshooting Browser Formatting ProblemsNovember 14 2008

We have received a number of inquiries lately about browser display problems like:
My site displays perfectly in Firefox but when I open it in Internet Explorer 7 it is all scrambled. How can I resolve this problem?
First and foremost, we want to let you know that we make every effort possible to quality check our templates before they are distributed for sale. We test them in different browsers and operating systems to ensure that they display properly.
You can test this for yourself by going to the many demo sites that we host and view them in different browsers for yourself:
WP-Vybe - http://www.wp-vybe.com
WP-Magazine - http://www.wp-magazine.com
Zeke 1.0 + Widgets - http://www.themes.solostream.comIf the demo site displays properly and your site doesn’t in the same browser, the most likely causes are:
1. Plugin Incompatibility - You have incorporated a plugin to your site that has created a compatibility problem. It’s like mixing ice cream and steak. Both of them can be very good by themselves but they are not the type of ingredients you want to mix on your plate at one time.
To resolve this situation, we recommend you deactivate the plugins one by one until you isolate the specific plugin that is causing the problem.
2. You may have mistakenly
- Protecting Your Site When Making Updates and EditsNovember 3 2008

We’ve all heard of Spring cleaning sessions. Well, for whatever reason, Solostream customers have created an equivalent phenomena right now — Fall Update/Upgrade/New Plugin season. Perhaps this is being triggered by the soon-to-be-released WordPress 2.7.
The rash of activity has triggered an important conversation with our team that we need to share with you. One of the most painful (and frustrating) experiences in working with technology is the moment of a major crash when installing an update or the unintended disruption of a feature or service when a new plugin is installed on a site.
The best technology users we know are all paranoid. They expect and therefore plan for the worst to the fullest extent possible. It is their preparation that saves them from setting off a bad situation or makes it easy to quickly resolve a sticky situation.
We encourage all Solostream customers to follow a few basic steps when working on a project for their site.
1. Carefully research the project you want to implement. The Internet offers tons of information and helpful people who have already implemented your type of project. Take advantage of this knowledge!
2. Whenever possible, do not perform work on a live site. Using a back up site will only impact yourself and anyone else who is viewing your test efforts.
3. Become familiar with how to revert your site in WordPress in case you encounter a problem within an update or plugin. You’ll save
