The Homies: Best Home Cooking Blog 2008! The Homies 2008Yesterday
12-20-homies12.jpg
Last night we completed our first ever Homies Awards, celebrating the best in home blogging in 2008, and it's my pleasure today to announce five six winners. It was an impromptu, get the ball rolling kind of affair this year that was meant in the best of spirits to direct attention at the Home Blog niche (because no awards ceremonies do), to award a bit of money ($100) and share as much link love as possible from our sites to others (some of which are bigger than us, some of which are smaller). I firmly believe that the web works best when there's mutual cooperation, and we've certainly benefited from the help of others over the years...

Kitchen Spotlight: Stephanie & Bob's Primary ColorsYesterday
2009_01_07-Spotlight.jpgWhen we saw the first picture from this Los Angeles kitchen, we were stunned. All that light! That red stripe!

Stephanie and Bob renovated their kitchen in this Los Angeles home, and it was a long and painstaking process. But now their kitchen not only displays stunning views of the city, it also offers a fresh, incredibly bright environment for cooking and eating. They completely gutted and rebuilt the kitchen, putting in hardwood floors to match the rest of the house (you know we love wood floors in the kitchen). One of our favorite elements is the mosaic over the Viking stove; it was found at the Pasadena Rose Bowl Flea Market. There is a lot more information, including photos of the kitchen before the renovation, at the owners' blog: • Kitchen Before/During/After You can see the whole house tour here: • House Tour: Stephanie & Bob's Silve

Calling Kitchen Tours! Kitchen Tour Submission FormYesterday
2009_01_07-Tours.jpgWhere do you cook? Is it a little kitchen with big ideas, or a big kitchen with loads of enviable counter space? Is it an apartment kitchen with a city view, or a cottage with a garden? We want to see where and how you cook. Would you like your kitchen to be featured in a tour on The Kitchn? We've put together a short submission form to make the process easy for anyone that wants to share their space with the community. Just follow the instructions below...

A little more info, too. We love to see all kinds of kitchens where cooking takes place. Kitchens are functional spaces, so while we love to see the big, beautiful, and clever kitchens, we also like the little kitchens that could. We like seeing spaces that have been made personal, and kitchens that have challenges. If you have found good storage and cooking solutions in a little kitchen, we want to see those too! You can submit a tour with your own photos, or, if you are in one of the main AT cities (LA, San Francisco, New York, Boston, DC, Chicago), we may be able to send a photographer over to photograph you and your kitchen in action. Also, we are currently lookin

Survey: What Vegetable Do You Fear?Yesterday
2009_01_07-beets.jpg2009_01_07-Brussels.jpg
In the comments on Emma's post about New Year's food resolutions, many people wrote that they vowed to eat more vegetables. We're with you, and we try to promote some that get less attention, like beets, brussels sprouts, and kale. But we'd like to know which vegetables you're avoiding because you're not confident about how to prepare them.

We love almost all vegetables, but we still get in a rut of eating the same ones over and over. As we approach a month of
