Motorola Droid X Review: Verizon’s Superb Answer To The iPhoneJuly 15

Motorola Droid X The Motorola Droid X is now available to the world at Verizon Wireless Stores. You may have noticed the hype surrounding this gorgeous device. Is it worth a change of heart? Better yet, how does the Motorola Droid X perform against the iPhone 4?

I don’t have the iPhone 4, nor do I plan to get one, so I can’t give you that scoop. However, I have been given the opportunity to play with the Droid X before it hits stores thanks to Verizon and Motorola. After nearly a month of playing with the Droid X  and a great deal of input from my tech peers, I have three words for you: make the switch.

Battery Life & Performance

I’ve been able to make it through a full work day of tweeting, emailing, downloading documents, using Maps to find my way around NY, and still have just enough juice to listen to some tunes on the subway heading home. 6 –7 hours max is what I’m getting when I adjusted the settings to my personal preference. You can leave that charger at home for the Droid X and still have a peace of mind.

The only other phone I’ve seen process any task as fast as the Droid X is the iPhone 4. The Droid

Hulu’s Freemium Headache: App Store Customers Drop Hulu Plus RatingsJuly 6

Hulu Plus iPhoneIs iTunes  converting Amazon customers because Hulu is taking a community beating that’s usually reserved for Amazon. If you’re lost about this beating, just take a look at the Hulu Plus App Store page. Hulu fans are voicing their complaints against Hulu Plus loud and clear using the App Store rating system.

Hulu Plus was announced last week as a premium service to Hulu. It extends access of Hulu’s content to your mobile gadgets like the iPad, iPhone, and your TV.  Apparently, thousands of people visiting the App Store didn’t get the memo. Instead, fans are calling foul on the Hulu Plus app by giving it 1-star ratings (5000+ times) and leaving plenty of reasons to the app and stick with the desktop.

SheGeeks Mobile: iPhone OS 4 On An iPhone 3G ReviewJune 23

iOS4 Homescreen Yesterday afternoon I finally found the time to upgrade my iPhone 3G to the new iPhone OS 4 (iOS4) The new upgrade was released on Monday amidst much competition from Google’s Android platform. The new iOS4 will be the determining factor for folks like myself who are curious enough to switch to an Android device if only to get away from AT&T. Will this be enough (with the upcoming iPhone 4) to keep iPhone users from switching? Keep reading to get the scoop.

Performance

When I first installed iOS4 on my iPhone 3G, I have to admit that the crowd was right, it was insanely slow from the bat. After a restart or two, most of the initial performance bugs appear to be gone. I still find the memory usage on my iPhone 3G to be higher than usual since the upgrade. Apps seem to launch faster, but there is still a 5-10 second lag while the app loads. That doesn’t seem like a long time, but when you’re staring at a screen that does nothing for 5-10 seconds, you begin to wonder or at least loose interest.

Some apps are crashing after 15 to 20 mins. These are heavier data apps like Twitter and heavy web pages. In between the loading and crashing, all you can do is have the patience of a spider. Overall, there isn’t anything

Online Identity Privacy Tips For Students and ParentsJune 22

Social Networks

Guest Post by: Lillian Solomon, a full-time educator at work and at home.

Many students around the globe are using social networks such as Myspace, Facebook, and Twitter to share their lives in a way that was unheard of prior too. While communicating online is nothing new, doing so in a highly public manner with disregard to privacy and security is. Students and parents may be unaware of negative impacts of prospective employers researching resume applicants using the very social networks that applicants communicate on the most. So here are a few ways for students and parents to keep themselves protected from web bloopers and more serious privacy concerns.

  1. 1. Choose Your “Friends” Wisely
  2. Kids are adding everyone as a friend these days. While this is a great way to build up networking skills, it also raises many issues for privacy and security. Befriending everyone can result in stalking, disclosure of personal information to unknown persons, and much more. The best way to address these issues is to simply be aware of who you are truly befriending on social networks.
  3. 2. Disclose Your Personal Information Carefully
Can’t remember when you gave your number to that creepy guy who called your house last night? You probably didn’t it. Th
Promoted Trends: More Clever Twitter AdsJune 17

twittertrendad

There have been many rumors about how Twitter would monetize itself and all roads led to advertisements. Simple enough, but when you throw ads in a Twitter conversation you tend to get mixed reactions from the public. Twitter serves as a conversation platform first and foremost. Some think that ads will disrupt real engagement, the type that has made Twitter what it is today. Others feel that Twitter needs to just find a way to make some money and stay in the game. What did Twitter think? Promoted Trends for ads!

This could very well be part of the Promoted Tweets platform that Twitter discussed at the CHIRP conference back in April. Originally it was announced specifically for tweets, for example:
