TV Pack 2008 and Beta MSDTVVDEC.DLL.August 27 2008

Thanks to asm495 and xs4all for their impressive and hard work we finally have H.264 decoding in VMC.

Instructions:

1. Take ownership of the file (File -> Properties -> Security -> Advanced -> Owner -> Edit then select yourself.
2. Give yourself full control over the file (File -> Properties -> Security -> Edit then select Users and check the box for Full Control.
3. Run Command Prompt as administrator. Then type "regsvr32 -u msdtvvdec.dll" and hit Enter.
4. Rename MSDTVVDEC.DLL to MSDTVVDEC.DLL.BAK
5. Copy Beta DLL to the system32 folder and type "regsvr32 msdtvvdec.dll" in Command Prompt and hit Enter.






Microsoft Official: Windows Media Center TV PackAugust 8 2008

On July 16th, 2008, Microsoft released an update to the version of Windows Media Center included with Windows Vista Home Premium and Windows Vista Ultimate to our OEM partners - this update is referred to as the “Windows® Media Center TV Pack”. In order to ensure that users get the best experience possible, this update will only be available from OEMs, as they are best positioned to provide the testing and hardware configurations for a great customer experience. This is due to the fact that in some geographies there are specific technical and hardware requirements for the Windows Media Center TV Pack that are best handled by the OEMs. We are working closely with our OEM partners as they finalize their decisions on Windows Media Center TV Pack products. 

 

The Windows Media Center TV Pack is primarily targeted at adding support for additional international broadcast standards including:

o   Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting – Terrestrial (ISDB-T) Digital television standard for Japan

o   Digital Video Broadcasting – Satellite (DVB-S) free-to-airsatellite standards  in  Europe

o   Digital Video Broadcasting – Terrestrial (DVB-T) digital television with  improved user experience in Europe

o   Clea

Windows Vista Media Center TV Pack 2008 - Details and Installation ResultsAugust 6 2008
At the bottom of this you will find the official Microsoft details of the update.

I downloaded the update (it is packaged like a Vista Standalone Update) (don’t ask, I am not disclosing how to obtain the update). I followed the directions found in the information below, however I installed this on an existing VMC configuration, not a new install. Everything went though fine and I had no issues.

After installing and rebooting, all the Media Center settings we reset so I had to re-run the media center setup and configure my TV settings etc.

Here are some screenshots and notes:

1. The Recorded TV section shows my previously recorded shows (in the ms-dvr format) and they playback just fine. However, there is no preview image for those in ms-dvr format. Only the newly recorded stuff in .WTV format shows a preview image.

2. The guide is a little different visually and it shows the HD logo on the channel lines, not just the program info below.

1. Install app

2. App defaults the watchedfolders to c:\public\videos\, whatever your recorded TV is set to record to, any watched recorded tv folders, and whatever your dvd library is pulling from. There is no currently no UI support to edit this list. To do so, go to C:\ProgramData\VideoLibrary\videolibrary.dll.config. It's an xml-based config file

3. The plug in shows up under TV+Movies. Launch it.

4. By default, it will recognize ripped tv shows using either of the following naming formats:
