Kristen Stewart to Rock Out as Joan JettToday

kristen-stewart-nc Ah, good times. I remember Joan Jett and the Runaways from the ’70s. It was right about the time I started noticing bands, and they definitely had an impact on me, being an all-girl band and all.

Now Kristen Stewart - fresh off her “Twilight” success - is set to play Joan Jett in “The Runaways,” a rock-n-roll biopic about the band. She even looks like the rocker, doesn’t she?

This is the part of this story where I say, “Yeah! Oh Yeah! (You’ll get that if you’re a Joan Jett fan). And Joan Jett herself will act as executive producer, so she’ll be giving her stamp of approval on everything, which is cool.

More after the jump…

The Runaways were the first successful all-girl rock band, and included guitarists Jett and Lita Ford, drummer Sandy West, singer-keyboardist Cherie Currie and bassist Jackie

"Marley & Me" - Preview & TrailerYesterday

My daughter and I have a tradition of seeing a movie on Christmas Day (I know, but what do you expect from a movie blogger?), and we’ve already decided to see “Marley and Me,” which opens that day.

It stars Jen Aniston and Owen Wilson as a couple who, from the trailer, are having some growing pains within their little family. Jen’s character wants kids and Owen’s doesn’t. So they get a dog, who ends up probably being more of a handful than any kid. I think the trailer looks ultra-cute. It’s rated PG for thematic material, some suggestive content and language.

"The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" - Preview & TrailerYesterday

I can’t seem to get excited about “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.” It just looks like a weird, dreary movie to me. Anyone looking forward to it? I’ve posted the trailer below.

It stars Brad Pitt as a guy who’s born old and ages backwards. I don’t know what happens at the end. I guess he evaporates into a puddle of … something. It’s rated PG-13 for brief war violence, sexual content, language and smoking. I’m sure I’ll see it at some point.

Anyway, my daughter and I have a tradition of seeing a movie on Christmas Day - when “Benjamin” comes out - and we’ve already decided we’re going to see “Marley & Me,” which looks very cute.

Kevin McKidd in for "Thor"?Yesterday

kevin-mckidd-thor In “Thor” news, Kevin McKidd recently told IGN Movies that he’s still a contender for the lead role in the live-action movie, and that there’s been “a lot of back and forth” about the project lately, but nothing is set in stone.

The “Grey’s Anatomy” actor (he’s Dr. Owen “Major McBadass” Hunt) noted that Kenneth Branagh is directing “Thor,” which only makes him more geeked about snagging the part.

Apparently, McKidd was in the running for the role last year when Marvel was actively working on it. Production was halted briefly - to see how “Iron Man” fared, I’ve heard - and they’re now aiming for a July 2010 release date.

"Monster vs. Aliens" PosterYesterday

Check out the new poster for “Monsters vs. Aliens,” in theaters March 27, 2009. The DreamWorks movie is about a young girl who turns into a monster after being hit by a meteorite from outer space. She’s then taken to a secret government compound where she meets a ragtag group of monsters also rounded up over the years. Features the voices of Reese Witherspoon, Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd, Keifer Sutherland, Hugh Laurie, and others.

It looks a lot like “Monsters, Inc.,” doesn’t it?
