- Intellon HomePlug AV ICs to be Interoperable with IEEE P1901 StandardDecember 22 2008
-
Intellon’s HomePlug
AV-based powerline ICs are expected to be interoperable with future products designed
to the newly-confirmed baseline for the IEEE P1901 global powerline communications
standard. HomePlug AV technology included in the confirmed baseline for the P1901
standard provides the key to a seamless path toward compatibility with the future
standard.
IEEE’s proposed P1901 specification defines a global standard for communications over powerlines, and Intellon’s HomePlug AV products are designed and optimized for the unique challenges of powerline communications. Intellon is also actively involved in the development of the ITU G.hn standard, which seeks to define a unified communications protocol over coax wiring and phone lines as well as powerlines. The ITU group is still working on defining the overall system specification so that optimal performance can be realized for each of the three wireline media.
Intellon has a long history of supporting and implementing global standards efforts. The company has shipped over 30 million powerline communications ICs based on HomePlug, EIA, SAE and TIA standards, including over 23 million HomePlug ICs. Over 45 service providers use Intellon’s HomePlug ICs, with customer deployments over coax wi - Weekdays Outpace Weekends for Online Video ViewingDecember 17 2008

GridNetworks announces
support for GridCast TV on the Sony PlayStation 3. The GridCast TV service, which
launched last month, enables content distributors and owners to stream video directly
over the Internet to viewers’ TVs without requiring a set-top box or any other additional

GridCast TV can now be viewed by anyone with an Internet-connected Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3. With combined support for these two gaming consoles, which hold a majority of console market share, GridCast TV can reach over 36 million homes worldwide, with roughly half of those in the U.S. These numbers are also growing quickly, with Microsoft recently announcing the biggest Black Friday ever for the Xbox 360, with record sales on one of the biggest shopping days of the year for U.S. retailers.
Dixon’s report for TDG further quantifies this dynamic, with numbers that underline the opportunity available to video content distributors who can reach gaming console audiences:- Approximately 190 million households will use a next-generation game console by 2012;
- 80% of these households—148 million—will have this console connected to the Interne
