A member of Barack Obama's transition team is denying media reports that the president-elect has decided to delay efforts to repeal “Don't Ask, Don't Tell” until 2010.

An Obama transition team spokesperson, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the decision on how to approach repealing “Don't Ask, Don't Tell,” which prohibits gays from serving openly in the military, would be made after more experts have joined the Obama administration.

“These decisions will not be made before the full national security team is in place,” the spokesperson said.

The Washington Times reported last week that two people who have advised ...

Leaders of national AIDS organizations revealed this week their recommendations for moves President-elect Barack Obama and his administration can make during their first 100 days in office to fight HIV/AIDS in America.

In a letter, the leaders call for “a comprehensive and adequately funded response to the domestic AIDS epidemic in the United States,” which Obama supported during the campaign.

“The purpose is to get renewed leadership for the domestic epidemic,” said Carl Schmid, director of federal affairs for the AIDS Institute, a national public policy organization. “These are all things he can do on his own without turning to Congress. ...

Although one California Supreme Court justice voted last week against taking up lawsuits challenging Proposition 8, a gay attorney said the justice was among those to previously rule for marriage rights.

Shannon Minter, legal director for the National Center for Lesbian Rights, sought to allay concerns during a Nov. 21 conference call following Justice Joyce Kennard's lone vote against the court's majority decision to take up the lawsuits.

“I know that has caused some anxiety on the part of some people,” Minter said, “and I just want to assure everyone … there's nothing in itself to worry about.”

Kennard was one of the votes tha ...

By REBECCA ARMENDARIZ

The YouTube video was an instant hit in the gay blogosphere.

Three Los Angeles police officers were shown on live television approaching a Proposition 8 protester who had broken through a police line. Officers then took the man down, hitting him with batons before arresting him.

The man was Kevin Miniter, 25, a gay activist. And in his first interview about the Nov. 5 incident, which was captured on video by a local TV news helicopter crew, Miniter told the Blade that events culminating in his arrest began earlier that day.

A former D.C. resident who recently moved to Los Angeles, Miniter said he learned at work that people were plan ning to rally against the ...

Group looks for new president as it works to redefine GOP
By AMY CAVANAUGH
Friday, November 28, 2008
In the wake of Sen. John McCain's failed presidential bid, Log Cabin Republicans are trying to reshape and redefine the Grand Old Party.

But the gay partisan group must do so without the help of its national leader, Patrick Sammon, who announced this month that he would leave his post in January.

Sammon, who spent five years at Log Cabin and two years as its president, said he would use his final months at the organization to help “influence the debate going on about the future” of the GOP.

“We need to focus on the 90 percent of things that Republicans agree on,” he said. “Pursuing divisive social issues is a strategy for defeat. ...
