Manic Depresion And Market MadnessOctober 16 2008

As I write this Stockmarkets around the world have popped up pretty significantly.

Phew, Glad THATS over… (Hah - I let this sit for a day and of course the markets have plunged again!)

But it’s not really, I mean today is really no different to yesterday, the same opportunities and obstacles you face are still their but if you have CNN/Foxnews/Name your paper and your obsessing over every piece of news (BTW Note to you - Stop doing that!) you’ll think the world is now a happier place.

Call this the Manic in manic depression phase…

It doesn’t annoy me at all - and don’t worry I’m not so zen that I can watch the market tumble like that and think about it

That’s natural…

Question is - what do we do about it. What’s a useful thing to obsess over (I’m all for obsessing - it just needs to be useful!) I had been thinking about this all weekend. What can you do that will make a useful impact. If the world is entering a tough economic phase what can you do…

Control And The Lack Of It

I really don’t want to go all woo-woo in the blog - but something that I try to work out is what stauff I have control over and what stuff I DONT CONTROL.

As much as my “master of the universe” self image allows - incredibly there is not a single thing I can do to influence the market. ( And hey -  I tried check out this post on Warren Buffet and John Mayer during the hight of the panic).

Now Merlin has a vicious sense of humor and his language is “colorful” but boy oh boy is this presentation SO WORTH IT.

PS Merlin has a podcast called “You Look Nice Today…” - It is without doubt the funniest podcast I listen to BUT I have a very sick sense of humor - It carries an iTunes “explicit” tag and on occasions truly earns that title

In Our Chicken Little World this week. I find a reason to just sit back and think “You Know i could have been born during the war, Dickens England, Lived in Ireland when all those pre-chilled out Danes came rampaging through. But no - I am living in 2000 and freakin 8 baby and I’m pretty darn grateful for that…

And this gem is exhibit 1…

You may not know it, I am a huge John Mayer Fan. Sure his music is great (well superb actually, a truly great songwriter) but that’s not why I think he’s great.

He’s great because he is a thinker, a student and has a true appreciation and deep thinking of the ART of being an Artist.

I put up a video of Warren Buffett earlier in the week and I think Mayer may be the Warren Buffett of Music

Both are Students of fundamentals, I’d like to think that if i have a slight skill (sure sucking coffee up through a TimTam without breaking the cookie takes chops…but I digress) in identifying the common themes in everything.

Any breakthrough idea I have ever had has been one of transition - What if you took Real Estate Strategies and applied them to Buying and Selling web sites. What if you took the valuation principles of Graham and Buffet and applied them to web sites…

Transition of a fundamental is a smart thing to do.

I’m thrilled to be working with Paul Colligan on this and each week we will have guest helping us on the panel. While Paul is on his way back from the Big Seminar I thought given the current economic climate I’d throw this up here. It has been getting great comments on Immediate Edge

Hi Gang

Usually I just stick to Internet Marketing, Guitars and, of course Fashion…

But today - I need you to watch something REALLY important. You NEED to understand what is really going on in the economic world. Make no mistake - there are issues - BUT- The same technology that we use to market our wares can be used to create fear and panic like we have never seen in history. I have a lot to say on this - but that will have to wait.

You know I just read Annabelle the story of Chicken Little, at the moment, the world is full of Chicken Littles

There are a handful of Foxy Loxy’s…

And Warren Buffett is the most benevolent and successful Foxy Loxy there is

You need to do two things…

1. Watch this video (and tweet your friends to watch it)

and

2. Pull out your kids copy of Chicken Little and read that too

Then Pass this on and make sure you get your friends to do it to.
