I don’t ask this often, but I cannot be more serious about asking you to do this. Sticks went to school with an extremely talented young classical pianist: Daniel Newman Lessler. When I say extremely talented, I’m not exaggerating: This kid is amazing. A prodigy. He is also one of the nicest kids I’ve ever known.
Yo-Yo Ma is calling musicians to a collaborative effort on Dona Nobis Pacem, and Danny has a submission in there. He’s currently in sixth place…but I would love to see him win an opportunity to record this with Yo-Yo Ma. Please listen to his submission and if you like it, vote for him. No formal registration is necessary; just an email confirmation of your vote.
You’ll be rewarding a teenager with a terrific heart and magnificent talent.
Vote for Danny here. And thank you in advance.

TweepleBlogger David Wilson cast the gauntlet at my feet earlier today. After writing an extremely kind profile of me and this humble blog, he challenged me to post my professional goals for 2009 and then pass the baton to someone else.
Have you ever had one of those moments when something so simple just feels too complex to even think about? This is one of them. The more I thought about his challenge, the more frozen I became. Professional goals? What professional goals? Beyond figuring out how to find a way to earn a paycheck and do what I love, I haven’t been able to bend my mind around my professional goals.
I updated my dusty and far out-of-date resume, because that’s what jobseekers do. It was so far out of date that I had to go back to email and document archives to figure out what the heck I’ve done for the last bazillion years since the last time I wrote a resume.
Because I just do what I do. I take pictures. I write. I whine occasionally, rant often, and participate always. Maybe you want to read what I write and maybe you don’t, but the good part is that I can write it, publish it, rant, whine, laugh, and cry and never know whether anyone reads it or not…it just makes me happy to do it. The same is true of my work life.
I had a job that I loved despite battling recalcitrant, old-tech software and balancing a lot of different needs and goals

Again, rising to Steve Gillmor’s challenge…
Today’s WebSpat involves my friends over on the Gillmor Gang, who spent the better part of an hour castigating Robert Scoble for not writing long, thoughtful blog posts.
Thank God he doesn’t. My brain can’t handle too many long, thoughtful pondering blog posts. But you can listen to what Mike Arrington and Jason Calacanis hand Robert as advice and decide for yourself.
Oh, and as long as I’m posting a non-thoughtful short, pithy blog post, I would like to take one more moment to thank Steve and Tina Gillmor for inviting me to participate on NewsGang Live this past year. It has truly been one of the biggest highlights of my year, bringing new friends, new challenges, and an incredibly knit community of people lost in these odd times. Happy New Year, Steve and Tina, and may 2009 be the year we figure out how to have health insurance without going bankrupt.

This is so…me.
Happy New Year to everyone! I wish you a 2009 full of realized dreams, reached goals, good health, and much happiness.

I hereby accept Steve Gillmor’s challenge to write even more crap in 2009 in the name of disrupting Techmeme (or in my case, Memeorandum) to prove that I have absolutely no authority other than that which others think I have. Here is my first contribution.
Tonight’s PBS broadcast of John Adams’ and Peter Sellars’ opera Doctor Atomic was amazing. It’s being rebroadcast on January 4th and if you can possibly catch it on your local PBS station, you should.
