Six years ago today the internet heaved the mighty Black Table upon an unsuspecting internet nation, so it's my duty to pay respect.Eric Gillin, Aileen Gallagher, That Leitch Kid, and myself were unaware if the silly little thing would ever get read by anybody or lead to anything other than to help us keep our sanity while we slouched through depressing trade magazine jobs, but it did. No, it never got bought, made any money, won any awards, or even reached a wide-reaching audience, but it gave all of us (and a lot of other writers) a pretty damn good outlet for those stories we only wished somebody would just please, please publish. Stories like this ridiculous thing, which Leitch and I were convinced would absolutely melt people's minds, took poor Eric about 12 hours to pull together thanks to our limited (and stolen) online publishing tools. Sorry, man.

You'd figure that Page Six would have surveillance video of the alleged Eli/Abby lapdance like they did for Antonio Pierce. Alas.But Pierce, whose muscular chest and steely-eyed glances apparently make one Midwestern boy's heart all aflutter, (Yeah — who says he hates black people?), wasn't at Tenjune nightclub that night according to the paper.
Those G-men who were in attendance included Shaun O'Hara, David Diehl, Amani Toomer, Brandon Jacobs and Kevin Boss. Oh, and 28-year-old Eli, fresh-faced and gawky, apparently getting a crotch-grind from his wife Abby, while Beyonce's "Single Ladies" blared. Who in his party got j-mop duty? Probably O'Hara.

The Cleveland Browns have come to terms with deposed Jets head coach Eric Mangini, and will formerly announce his hiring on Thursday. And Romeo Crennel may be staying around as well!It's still close to Christmas, so let's call it the Gift of the Mangi. From the Cleveland Plain Dealer:
Lerner interviewed Mangini the next day. Lerner was so impressed that he never wavered from Mangini as his first choice. The owner also interviewed Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and Browns defensive coordinator Mel Tucker.
Mangini's hiring increases the possibility of Crennel staying with the Browns, perhaps as defensive coordinator. Mangini and Crennel worked five years together on Bill Belichick's New England staff, sharing three Super Bowl championships. When Crennel was named Browns coach in 2005, Mangini was his first choice for defensive coordinator, but Mangini opted to stay in New England as Crennel's replacement in charge of the Patriots' defense.
Going from Brett Favre to Brady Quinn in a month's time is one Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, to be sure. Welcome back Eric, although we never really had enough time to miss you!
