- When the iPhone finally came to Canada (long after our neighbours to the south got it), I was among the first to pick one up. Frankly, I had been coveting it for some time and was considering pushing my nation into war with the US to enable myself to obtain one.Rather than push for an international incident, and the slaughter of 31 million Canadians, I waited.At first glance, the iPhone 3G was a magical instrument, able to increase the joy in my life by a factor of 10. After a few weeks though, it dawned on me: this phone can do anything! Except for making $%@#%#$ phone calls.Indeed, on the Rogers Network in Canada, there was a plague of dropped calls with the iPhone. And as much as I enjoyed all the other features the iPhone possessed, the ability to call others was not one I Was willing to compromise on. I conceded defeat, and returned to the Blackberry.Fast forward to a week ago, and I'd been hearing from multiple sources that all the kinks were out of the system. Finally, the iPhone worked properly on Rogers. Happily, I returned to the store and purchased an iPhone (using the upgrade on Randy's account, without him knowing about it).Not only that, but I also managed to convinced Sue to pick up an iPhone as well (I call it 'spousal pressure'), so she's almost as obsessed with the device as I am. Every time we would go shopping, she would say "Don't buy anything in the Apple Store. Promise me!". Now that's evolved into "Whatever you buy in the Apple store, get one for me to

And thus the holidays are over, and life can return to a semblance of normalcy (as normal as it ever is, in any event).I did manage to finish up the first season of , and yes, the finale did leave me in a panic, anxiously awaiting the second season. Still, with and returning shortly, I should be okay.On your recommendations, I gave Showtime's a shot and took a look at the pilot. Upon first glance, it's a poor man's Rome, but the plot is intriguing enough to warrant a few more episodes.
