Two new media references worth reading in the last week:

Sysadmin Job in MontrealOctober 7

Control Yourself, Inc. is is looking for a moderately experienced jack-of-all-trades sysadmin familiar with at least the following software:

  • Ubuntu and/or Debian
  • Apache
  • PHP
  • MySQL

Familiarity with this software a big plus:

  • Ejabberd or other Jabber servers
  • Memcached
  • Amazon EC2
  • Mailman
  • Postfix
  • Lighttpd

Applicants should:

  •  enjoy learning about new software
  • share our fanaticism for a pure Free Software environment
  • have a git-’er-done attitude
  • have time and energy for a startup job
  • participate in social media
  • participate in Open Source
  • be available for off-hours alerts

You’d be in a mixed work environment; partly from home, and partly from shared offices at Station C. All servers are located in remote data centres.

You should be able to speak some English or be able to tolerate my less-than-perfect French. Compensation appropriate to your level of experience. This is a growth job; you’ll have great stories to tell people in a few years.

Send a short resume in a non-proprietary format to evan@controlyourself.ca.

Laconica 0.6.1 delayed until Sunday nightOctober 3

Brief notice: Laconica 0.6.1’s release (a minor release with some bugfixes, optimizations and API enhancements) will be delayed until Sunday, 5 Oct at midnight EDT. This should allow us to incorporate any optimizations that are made during Codefest 2.2.

OpenMicroBlogging meeting on Monday, 8 October 2008, 21:00 UTCOctober 2

We’ll be having a meeting of all parties interested in OpenMicroBlogging on Jabber IM on Monday, 8 October. The meeting room is openmicroblogging@conference.jabber.org. The agenda is available on a wiki page at http://pageoftext.com/openmicroblogging_agenda_6_oct_2008.

My goal is to see OpenMicroBlogging have a better presence on-line; improve in its featureset and usability; and be implemented by more proprietary and Open Source microblogging services.  A number of volunteers have expressed interest, so hopefully this meeting will help it move forward.

Podcast coverage roundupOctober 2

It’s been a while since we had a roundup of coverage of Identi.ca. I wanted to specifically link to podcast episodes where I’ve been talking about Identi.ca and Laconi.ca.
