Here's the press release for the upcoming comic book sequel to Plan 9 From Outer Space. I'm a huge fan of this film and I loved writing the script for this sequel. The art is by Giovanni Timpano, who worked with me on "Orok" and "Canus." He did a wonderful job on this issue. You can pre-order the issue by clicking HERE. Read all about it:
Bluewater Productions, along with Legend Films, is developing the sequel to the cult film Plan 9 From Outer Space. This oversized issue, titled “Plan 9 From Outer Space … Strikes Again,” is scheduled for a March 2009 release. The team will be writers Chad Helder and Darren G. Davis and artist Giovanni P. Timpano, all of whom are alumni of the Vincent Price Presents series. The colors for this issue are by Alex Sollazzo, and the cover artist is Nate Watson (Scream Queen for BOOM! Studios).
The film Plan 9 from Outer Space is a 1959 science fiction/horror film written, produced, and directed by Edward D. Wood, Jr. Because of its script, acting, special effects, and multiple production errors visible in the final version of the film, Plan 9 is often regarded as a leading candidate for the title of "Worst Movie Ever Made." It has also earned Wood a posthumou - New Comics Available for Pre-OrderJanuary 2

My comic book publisher, Bluewater, is releasing a comic book version of The Pit and the Pendulum, one of my favorite Poe stories (and one of my favorite Vincent Price films, although only loosely connected to the original story). The comic book contains images from a stop-motion film. Read all about it below.
From Bluewater Comics:
The success of Ray Harryhausen Presents: The Pit and the Pendulum, a short-stop motion animated film produced by Hand Made Heroes Film & Television, has resulted in a comic book deal with Bluewater Productions. When Bluewater President Darren G. Davis and Director Marc Lougee of Hand Made Heroes discovered they were both producing work independently under the Ray Harryhausen Presents banner, Bluewater immediately penned a deal with director Marc Lougee to further develop film & comic book cross-over properties.
Since its premiere hosted by Harry Knowles of Ain’t It Cool News at the BNAT Film Festival, The Pit and the Pendulum short film has screened in over 200 film festivals and comic conventions around the world, including AFI Dallas and San Diego Comic-Con. Nearly 100,000 visitors logged into the film’s website within two days of the film’s premier in Austin, TX, and has c - Happy New Year Horror Fiends and FriendsJanuary 1

Happy New Year 2009!
2008 was an amazing, groundbreaking year, and I think 2009 is also going to be amazing (with unexpected twists and turns I am sure). I am really excited about the upcoming year for many reasons, but I am especially excited about new developments in the online realm and how it relates to various forms of "digital" storytelling. It seems that the digital frontier continues to expand, and I am very optimistic about finding a niche for my hopes, goals, and ambitions.
The fourth issue of "Bartholomew" was just released, and I was really psyched and proud to hold all four issues in my hands. I started working on "Bartholomew" as a novel in 2002, so it has been a long process of writing, revising, re-imagining, and adapting. The graphic novel trade paperback version will be released in the next few months (expected in March), and I have high hopes that "Bartholomew of the Scissors" will reach a larger audience and live on in various forms. I want to thank publisher Darren Davis for staying committed to the "Bartholomew" project, artist Daniel Crosier for contributing his artistic vision and creativity to the project, and the always amazing and dependable letterer Malachi Sharlow. I am also very proud of the four-issue run as writer for "Vincent Price Presents," culminating in "Canus," which I think is my best story. In four i

This week I got my copies of Canus (Vincent Price Presents Issue 4), and I am very proud of this issue. Not only is the art and the coloring amazing, but I also think it is one of my best stories (ever).
As I was reflecting on the story of Canus yesterday, I remembered a twisted French film about a crazy dog that I watched in college many years ago--that film is called Baxter. Although I wasn't thinking of Baxter when I wrote Canus (the two dogs are actually quite different, especially since Canus is a cyborg dog), I'm sure Baxter influenced my subconscious mind because I watched Baxter many times in college.
Baxter is really a groundbreaking horror film because of the way it uses a voiceover narration to characterize the thoughts of sinister (and sympathetic) Baxter.
Here are my two favorite horror dogs, Baxter and Canus:
