Cool Idea: A Shutter as a Memory BoardYesterday

The great thing about memory boards is that they don't require any magnets or pushpins to hang your mementos and notes as cork boards and refrigerators doors do. But, none of these options are very attractive or interesting looking. An alternative is to hang an old shutter from a flea market or your own house horizontally on the wall, and display your photographs, memos, and souvenirs by setting them between its slats. Some flimsy papers may require a bit of double-stick tape on their backsides, but most items will stay up on their own. And then you can say goodbye to those unsightly magnets from your local delivery pizza place.

Casa Quickie: Nonslip StairsYesterday

Thinking back on all the scrapes and bruises I acquired simply from falling down my stairs as an overly energetic kid, I cringe a little. But there was no stopping me, especially on the days (most) when I was late to school. If only my parents had thought to install some sort of no-slip system, I mightn't have been so black and blue. Luckily, I've found the answer to these painful falls.

Show Me Your Casa!Yesterday

Add any cool additions to your house lately? Maybe a porch? Maybe just a new throw pillow? Whatever you're doing, I want to see it!

Show off all of your home views, both interior and exterior, in my group on TeamSugar called Su Casa, where readers can share snapshots and stories related to home decorating, crafts, organizing, and gardening.
A Su Casa post could be anything from a photo of a loved one's home to a tiny nook you're tickled by. Think of it as a Look Book for home style. If I see something I like in Su Casa, I might feature it on CasaSugar, so don't be surprised if you get an email from me!

Midday Muse: Pretty in PinkYesterday

It's not very often that we see such a wealth of pink outside of the bedroom of school girl. But, a pretty-in-pink look can be achieved with sophistication without screaming "fairy princess." The key is to steer clear of overly feminine patterns, and pick up your pinks from a particular element, such as a rug. Here, the walls, curtains, and pillows echo the mauve tones of this one-of-a-kind kilim rug, and its terracotta tones are picked up by other accents such as the coral chair and bowl. Pattern is left mostly to the rug, and modern shapes and furnishings give the room a mature edge. Perhaps pink isn't for you, but focusing on one key element is a fool-proof living room decorating idea for any interior.
