Why the Conservatives were able to brand Dion as a WimpOctober 31 2008
Borrowing straight from the Republican play book on how to castrate your "elitist" opponent, the Conservatives painted Dion as an indecisive wimp in their ads by having a high pitched Dion blurt out "Do you think it is easy to make priorities?" The Dean scream was no where near as damaging and a competent communicator would have likely been unable to successfully counter such a character assignation, but Dion's English is not even adequate and Dion's tendency to slouch and flair his skinny arms means that he is unlikely to be mistaken for the Marlboro man. His inability to communicate turned him into a blank slate on which the Conservatives could write anything they pleased.
Media wish list for the 2008 Federal ElectionSeptember 12 2008
5 days in, the media coverage of the 2008 federal election is starting to really frustrate me. Reporting on the gaffes, and the party's shots at each other is interesting, but how exactly does it help me make an informed vote. What the media is mainly telling Canadians is what we already know:
Legal Aid Case: Many Questions, Few AnswersAugust 18 2008

By Barbara Kay

What’s your taste in summer reading? Whodunnits? Famous battles? Horror stories? You can find them all wrapped up in one at the following website -

As Justice Perkins describes the situation: “After more than four years of warfare between the parents, during which the children were dragged by both parents into the middle of their relationship issues, three of the parties’ four children have left the mother’s home for the father’s home and no longer speak to their mother... Fearing the father and the other three children will work to cause the loss of her relationship with the fourth child, the mother has not allowed that child to see the father or the other three children.  The couple’s considerable assets, which would ordinarily be the children’s inheritance, have been spent on legal fees.  Both parents are emotional wrecks and are psycholog

BC carbon taxJune 25 2008

The first phase of BC's new carbon tax is coming in shortly: starting July 1, CO2 emissions will be taxed at $10/tonne, rising to $30/tonne in 2012. There's matching cuts in income tax, so it'll be revenue-neutral. This is an idea that economists and the Green Party have been pushing for years; I think it's a great idea.

If an Election was Held TodayJune 1 2008
Reading the polls, both provincial and national, this is how I see things breaking down if a federal election was held today.
