MiMiC 3.X Users' Forum : Tuning First Principles MiMiC Modeling BlocksJanuary 5

Even the most accurate, dynamic process models can give results that vary from installed plant process equipment.  That is because most process simulators do not have a way to easily tune models to compensate for fouling or deterioration of equipment in plants.  The screen shot below is for the Heat Exchanger modeling block in MiMiC v3.  As you can see the two nubs on the lower left are for the model Fouling_Factor and Heat_Loss_Factor attributes.   These attributes can be adjusted between 0 (no heat loss or fouling) to 1 (maximum heat loss or fouling) to make the theoretical heat exchanger model replicate installed systems.  Because the modeling blocks are integrated with the complete MiMiC system, these attributes could be tuned or effected with simulation studio, a MiMiC View, in an Operator Training Manager scenario, from a Component Studio Instructor Screen, or through the OPC server (from a DeltaV Operate screen even).

In addition, the HX modeling block is a true high-fidelity, first principles modeling block.  The thermodynamic calculations used

VIM Network Gateway : Opto22 IO Integration with DeltaVJanuary 2

For integration of Opto22 SNAP IO into DeltaV we recommend the use of the newer SNAP-PAC-EB1 or SNAP-PAC-EB2 modules: http://www.opto22.com/site/pr_cat_ssc_snappac.aspx?qs=3020303020061018,0,2,,&system=snappac&.  These modules support the Modbus TCP/IP protocol which should easily integrate into DeltaV.

On DeltaV you will need a Virtual IO Module, MIM-4207 or VIM-4201 and the Modbus TCP/IP Driver, IOD-4101.  See http://www.mynah.com/vim/ for more information on the DeltaV Virtual IO Module Network Gateway.

VIM Network Gateway : Time/Date Stamps From Industrial Ethernet DevicesJanuary 2

Industrial Ethernet protocols like Modbus TCP/IP and Ethernet/IP are easy for the user to implement, fast and effective.  However, there are limitations with these plant floor data communication protocols.  One is that they do not support the transmission of original device time and date stamps as part of the standard protocol.  This is often requested for integrating safety shutdown systems with basic process control systems.

There are a number of issues with attempting to integrate the original device time and date stamps over Industrial Ethernet including:

·         Neither Modbus TCP/IP nor Ethernet/IP has provision for transmitting this data as part of the standard protocols.

·         Process controllers in most basic process control systems do not have the ability to accept foreign device time and date stamps or a method to integrate them with native time and date stamps.

Because of these limitations, we recommend that the user consider different or par

A very important part of the MiMiC v3.1.0 revision is the release of the MiMiC Server.  The new MiMiC Server option provides multi-user support to a single MiMiC application based upon Microsoft’s Server 2003 Remote Terminal Services.  This option allows up to ten users access to the same MiMiC application from a standard Microsoft Windows XP or Vista desktop.  It allows remote access for simulation development, large-scale automation system testing, or multiple operator training instructor stations.  As part of the MiMiC Server, MYNAH’s development team built the MiMiC Access Control Layer.

The MiMiC Access Control Layer application reduces the management and increases the integrity of the multi-user simulation environment by:

·         Coordinating the access requests of users on the system.

·         Protecting the integrity of the simulation database.

·         Simplifying the management of the multi-user simulation environme
