After the last day of SPX was over, Jeremy and I took off to DC to feel small at the feet of some statues (cause we hadn't had enough at Gettysburg I guess?). It's kind of shocking how, well, MONUMENTAL these monuments are. I'm reading James Swanson's Manhunt right now, about the search for John Wilkes Booth and his co-conspirators. It's fascinating how quickly Lincoln here passed from being a contentious figure to nationally-mourned martyr. Would he have this marble memori - A Softer World: 362Yesterday

Yesterday we took a trip to the Toronto Islands, this is Jeremy gazing at the view from the cute little ferry. I didn't realise how much I'd missed ferries! Ours evidently used to be a Staten Island Ferry, or at least its lifering was. The Toronto Islands are great on a grey day in the autumn, all deserted beaches and drained fountains. Seemed like the perfect place to go if you wanted to be sad.
