YouTube has HD Videos for quite some time, when a video is available in HD you will see a link “watch in high quality” below the video. Youtube has added a landing page for the HD content recently to make it easy for users to discover HD videos. There are tons of youtube video downloaders and some Firefox addons for downloading youtube videos.

Youtube Downloader HD is a freeware for downloading HD videos from Youtube. While downloading it can convert the video to AVI or FLV. Using youtube downloader HD is simple, copy the youtube video URL and paste it in the video URL field, select the option either HD AVI or MP4 high quality, it will download the youtube video if the HD version is available.

Launch Websites with Keyboard ShortcutsJanuary 5

Site Launcher is a Firefox add-on that allows users to quickly launch websites using keyboard shortcuts. If your bookmarks list became long try this addon to set keyboard shortcuts for your most used sites and launch them few shortcut keys.

After installing the extension open the options panel to set shortcuts for websites to launch. It comes with pre-configured keys for some popular sites, but you can add your own favorites by specifying shortcut key, name and URL. You can change the order of the sites.

To launch a site either you can first launch the site launcher menu and then hit the key to launch a site or if you can memorize the site key you can directly launch the site. To launch sitelauncher menu hit Ctrl + Space, then hit the site key. To directly launch a site hit Shift + Alt + “site key” (Ex: Shift + Alt + g).

Power twitter Firefox AddonJanuary 4

Power twitter is a Firefox add-on that enhances twitter with a search box on twitter timeline and with other nifty features. If you use twitter a lot install this add-on to get most out of twitter.

After installing the addon, it adds a twitter search box to the page, you can directly search with this box and the results are displayed on the same page. When you visit other twitter user pages it allows you to search only that user tweets which is really helpful. Other important features of this extension is it adds the page title of the link you are about to follow, so you will know where you are going.

It also displays Flickr pics, YouTube videos, twitpic pics inline, you don’t have to click to see that pic your friend has sent you. When you hover your mouse on friends avatars it shows their recent activity.

Disable Startup: Monitor and Manage Windows StartupJanuary 4

If you install lot of programs on your PC, some of them adding themselves to the windows startup list causing slow down of the windows startup. Disable startup is a free program that manages and monitors the the windows startup processes.

You can remove the programs that are unnecessary while windows startup using msconfig tool (for Vista enter msconfig in smart search) in windows, but this freeware allows you also to monitor what gets added to the startup process. This way you can control programs which are strating up with windows.

This is a tiny application and doesn’t need much space, while installing the License Agreement shows as if it is a paid program, but it is freeware. After installing you can set options like warnings to give when a new program is added to the windows stratup list or disable adding programs to startup.
