- Planning The Launch Of A New BlogToday
-
I once read somewhere that if you plan on launching a site within a niche, it's a good idea to hang around the various sites that already exist for at least six to twelve months. Comment on those blogs, make connections with the owners of those blogs and if possible, write a guest post or two. Why is all of this important? As I get ready for the launch of my own project, I've discovered that there are many people who have been willing to lend me a hand. Many of these individuals operate websites within the same niche that I plan on launching my site in and it struck me as odd to see competitors offer their support. However, it would seem that after spending a year and a half within the community, I've developed relationships with key individuals.
Within the past year and a half, I've written guest blog posts for a number of sites, have networked with people on skype, through Twitter, and via email. I've left comments on many of the blogs within the WordPress community. Through all of these interactions, I've been able to create a list of great relationships with people who operate notable websites. Thanks to these relationships, I'm able to plan out a successful launch of my blog through guest blog posts, articles on high trafficked blogs, and individuals offering to lend me a hand with anything I need help with. I'm in a pret

While last weeks show contained a number of depressing news items, this weeks show provided the upshot. Jade Craven who runs the blog, The Prolific Writer published an awesome list of tips the other day on how to get a guest blog post on an A-List blog. Her tips are bookmark worthy. I can verify that her tips on Waiting For An Opportunity as well as having prior contact with the A-List blogger work. I used most of the advice she provides in order to write guest blog posts for Problogger.
Definitely give this one a read and save it for future reference.

What happens when you've finished writing a blog post and hit the publish button? Well, for one, your blogging software will publish your article for all the world to see. But there's something that's not as obvious. The moment you hit publish, you now own the copyright to that particular post, unless you explicitly state otherwise.
Most bloggers are unaware of this. Or most of us simply don't care. Until some other site automatically republishes our post in full, that is. It's called scraping, one of the ugly cousins of splogging. Worse, they probably have AdSense, text links and other affiliate links slapped on their sites. Where's the link back to your blog, you ask? In all likelihood, it's not there. Or if there's a link, it probably just adds to the insult.
You become a victim of copyright infringement.
The bad thing here is that search engines penalize for duplicate content. And to their eyes, it doesn't matter who does own the copyright, and who does publish first. If it's a dupe, both sites will be hit.
Tracking down which sites duplicate your content does take time, energy and a lot of patience. Acting on these takes even more time, energy and patience. Most scrapers won't even bother responding to your emails. Some hosting providers do, but sometimes not without a little push.
And to help our fellow writers combat this scourge of the blogosphere, we're launching our very own

- Need Your Help Monetizing A SiteJanuary 7

Performancing.com has been around for at least five years now. In that time span, many bloggers from all walks of life have shared their tips, tricks, and techniques. Based on what I've seen while writing for Performancing, many of you are either monetizing websites or are wanting to do so. I find myself in a good position to become one of those who are monetizing websites as I am currently working on my own project. However, I have never monetized a site before let alone dealt with advertisers. So with that in mind, I'll explain what I plan on doing with my project and then I'd like you to chime in and help me decide how to monetize this site.About The Project:
The name of my project as well as the domain name is WPTavern also known as WordPress Tavern. The site will focus on all things WordPress as well as related projects under the Automattic umbrella. I'll also have a forum attached to the site. I have three goals for this project. The first is to foster a community. The second is to turn the site into a success and the third is to turn the site into my full time job which revolves around my passion.
Monetization Strategy:
If there is one thing I have learned by browsing the archives of Performancing, it's that you should always have multiple revenue streams. With my new project, I'll have a
