Colorado Share the Road License PlatesJanuary 7

I posted the end of 2007 about the new Colorado Share the Road License Plates. I've had the certificates from Bicycle Colorado for both our vehicles since last January.

I've been meaning to go to the DMV to the new plates but since I didn't have to I kept putting it off. I put if off until the last day before expiration grace period on one of the vehicles.

Even though I got the plates, I didn't take the 5 minutes to put them on. My wife got pulled over today for expired tags today but didn't get a ticket since the new plates were in the van. The plates are on it now.

Here's hoping you have some great adventures in 2009! Some of my possible cycling adventures are on my schedule. I also hope to have some adventures off the bike. What are some of your adventure plans for 2009?

We stayed up last night until midnight. Every year the AdAmAn club hikes up Pikes Peak and sets off fireworks from the summit and midnight to bring in the New Year. Last night it was clear and it was cool seeing the fireworks light up the face of the mountain.

2009 Leadville Winter Mountain Bike SeriesDecember 30 2008

Once again there will be a Winter Mountain Bike Race Series in Leadville this winter. There are 5 races in the series. The first race is on January 17th.

New this year will be a series champion. You must compete in at least 3 of the 5 races to be qualified. Top three finishes wins a Karate Monkey Frame!

Although some racers have nice snow bikes like the Surly Pugsley, a special snow bike isn't necessary. You can use your regular mountain bike with as wide of tires as will fit in the frame. Run low pressure in the tires. If the tires are wide enough, you may be able to run as low as 5 psi.

New Site DesignDecember 28 2008

The last few weeks I've been working on a much needed new design for UltraRob.com. I've started on it a few times in the past but never had the time to get it done. I got laid off from my job a few weeks ago so I've had more time. It's hard to believe though the time I'm spending looking for a new job in the current recession.

The design still isn't anything fancy but I think it's a big improvement from the old one. I'd love to hear what you like and what you don't.

The only change here on UltraRob's Adventures until last night was the header. I worked on the new design on the blog last night until I ran out of brain cycles. I still have a bit of tweaking to do on it.

I changed the home page, about page, most of the photo pages and some other pages over the last couple weeks. I still have the cycling and outdoor gear pages, a few older photo pages and some miscellaneous pages to change to the new design.

How are the changes looking so far?

Merry Christmas!December 25 2008

I hope you all have a very merry Christmas! Hopefully you'll also get some cool new toys for your bike or some outdoor gear. I also hope you take some time to think about the reason for Christmas.

We went to a Christmas Eve service at the Flying W Ranch this evening. Afterward the kids opened the gifts from us. Tomorrow they'll be getting many more gifts from grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

It'll be a busy day since so many of our relatives live in town. Unfortunately my sister from Alaska won't be here. She was supposed to fly in on Monday but her flight got canceled because of the snow in Seattle. They couldn't get her rescheduled until after Christmas but at least we'll still get to see her.
