Inside My Shell

Years ago someone asked me "When are you most happy?" and I answered: "Being creative". That's what this blog is about.

3. Advent (349/366), originally uploaded by InsideMyShell.

Before I take off to spend the holidays with my family, I want to wish everybody a merry Christmas and all the best for 2009!

Thank you for letting me share bits of my life with you.

See you next year!

To round things up, I'm finally posting the shots of Photo Safari No. 5. In September we took the train to Potsdam, just outside of Berlin.

First we took a quick detour through the Dutch Quarter with its neat little brick houses.

Photo Safari No. 4 took us to the zoo. It was a very hot day in July and some animals were as exhausted by the heat as we were after a while. It was still a wonderful opportunity to take some "wildlife" shots and I enjoyed capturing the various zoo inhabitants.

Baking Christmas CookiesDecember 16 2008

Christmas Cookies (348/366), originally uploaded by InsideMyShell.

One thing I love about the Christmas season is that I get to bake more than I usually do. I enjoy trying out new recipes. This year I made orange stars, cookies with walnut & chocolate filling (in the back, to the left), crunchy cookies with spices (in the back, to the right) and - an all-time favorite of mine - cranberry ginger macaroons.
I wish I could invite you all over to share some tea and cookies.

AdventDecember 2 2008

Advent 1st (335/366), originally uploaded by InsideMyShell.

For me Advent 1st is the official start of the holiday season. That's when I start to decorate my apartment and begin baking Christmas cookies. When I was a child, lighting that first candle on the advent wreath was always a big deal because that meant it was only four weeks to Christmas. In a way this still marks the beginning of Christmas for me. It's all about awaiting and building up anticipation for the big finale. This is why I don't like buying holiday stuff in October. Everything has its own time and I like that.
