random verses that have been tearing me up.December 1 2008
I have not had any time to blog anything of substance lately, but Jesus is teaching me so much.

Here are some verses that have been stopping me in my tracks right now.

1 Samuel 17:48
"Then it happened when the Philistine rose and came and drew near to meet David, that David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet the Philistine."

(Full blog of thoughts on this verse to come some time soon)

1 Samuel 17:47
"and that all this assembly may know that the Lord does not deliver by sword or by spear; for the BATTLE IS THE LORDS and He will give you into our hands."

Psalm 84:5
"How blessed is the man whose strength is in you, In whose heart are the highways to Zion!"

I have so much that I wish I had time to talk about, maybe later this week I can get a lot of stuff out for you to read.

ColdplayNovember 20 2008

I made a list in college entitled "bands to see before I die."  On this list I listed a variety of artist who I felt if given the chance at whatever cost I would go to see live.

This list is topped by bands like U2, Jack Johnson, Ben Folds, and John Mayer.  However there is one band that hails above them all, Coldplay.  Two weeks ago it finally happened.  I got to see Coldplay at Phillips arena.  Matt Ware, Matthew McMinn, Tom Mcminn, Brandon Batson, and Molly McMinn were all there as well.

Now I dont flip out about a lot of things, but when Coldplay hit the stage I am pretty sure that I looked at Matt and fluttered my hands like a little school girl.   It was amazing.

Oh and to see 17,000 people passionately worshiping something was intense.  We are all intrinsically wired for worship.  I am sure there is more to blog about this at a later time.  In the mean time here are some pictures.

IncramentalismOctober 31 2008
Wow this one may get me in trouble, but well you know I am going to write it anyway.

I am reading a book by Bill Hybel's pastor of Willow Creek in Illinois.  The book is full of leadership nuggets that span Bill's pastoral career of 20 plus years of ministry.

The last chapter stopped me in my tracks.  I want to give you some of the quotes, and then some of the stuff that is bouncing around like pong in my head right now.

"Over time, church leaders and congregations alike are dismayed to learn just how much energy and enthusiasm it takes to keep the machinery of a growing church chugging along."

"The biggest financial dream is a 3 percent increase over last years income, because anything more than that would be going out on a wild limb of faith.  Very slowly, and quite subtly, you find yourself increasingly satisfied with nothing more than incremental growth.  And from there things really start to go downhill."

"Incremental thinking, incremental planning, incremental prayers--it's the kiss of death. Don't fall for it."

Now this is where honesty hurts.  Speaking as a leader working

Random thoughts...October 28 2008
It is time to live the Gospel and Live it hard.

With every....
Conversation, laugh, tear, action, dollar, word, breath, and beat of my heart.

Live the Gospel and live it out hard.

Take nothing for granted.  Perceive it all as divinely planned, and God ordained.

From the drive through
to the golf course,
to evenings with your wife,
to moments at starbucks with friends,
to standing in line anywhere,
to moments of solitude,
to time with your kids,
to work,
to the car ride,
to vacation,
to holidays,

take nothing, none of it, for granted.... Know that these were crafted moments by God.

and may I start expecting that a divine God, has planned out divine moments with each minute of this life that God has given me.

Leadership quotes from CloudOctober 27 2008
I just started reading a book called "Axiom" by Bill Hybels. The foreword was written by Henry Cloud. Cloud wrote an awesome book called "Integrity" that you should definitely check out.

Here are some of the things that got me thinking in his foreword to Bill's new book.

"A leaders responsibility, first and foremost, is to cause a vision and mission to have tangible results in the real world."

" Without a real difference made in real people's lives , a vision is regulated to a pipe dream.."

- I loved this quote. It stopped me dead in my tracks as a church leader. I probably will write more about this later.

"Great leaders grow not just results, but people too."

- As a leader this really yanked my focus when it came to how I am leading those around me.

"Few things are more tragic than seeing zeal, talent, and a God-given goal fail because a leader neglected to get better."

-I better become more intentional about growing, resting, and spending time with God.

I hope these get you thinking.
