Wow has it really been a year...January 7

3004236235_2f9d917b46 Driving home this evening I realized that a year ago tonight is when many people begin to ask, is it really possible?  Could Sen. Barack Obama really win the White House ----- naw.  Yes I had watched Obama launch his campaign in February 2007 and  yes I followed the race daily, even attended volunteer meetings.  But in my heart of hearts did I really think Obama could win?  Well, in two weeks he's moving in at 1600 Penn. Avenue.

The 2008 Election was an incredible experience, personally, community wide and across the nation.  I volunteered, made donations and pored over poll known to man - and web. It was fascinating to watch how involved the public became with the race.

While I have tuned out to the MSM coverage and politics for the moment, I am still very excited about the election of Barack Obama.  I just hate the cycle of celebrity in America --- build someone up and once they get there, beat them down.  Everything is analyzed to death and it just gets to you, but it appears not Obama himself.  It helps that he supposedly never watches news...LOL. In an interview with Diane Sawyer last February, Obama stated he never gets too up or down, and through the election season he seemed

3004880944_bce29f4843_oAlot has changed since my last post hasn't it?  America has begun a new era. Several days later and it is still unbelievable.  I will never forget the moment I heard the words & saw the announcement that Barack Obama was elected President of the United States of America.

I do not expect perfection from the new President-elect.  I realize I will not agree with all of his decisions and he will have a hard time fulfilling all of the campaign pledges.  However, I am confident he will give thought, not rash emotion to decisions, he will lead his adminstration - not be lead by others.  Intelligence is wonderful, I believe Obama will lead with a measure of wisdom as well.

Pat Buchanan: "The Party's Over"September 19 2008

"The new era will see a more sober and much diminished America. The “Omnipower” and “Indispensable Nation” we heard about in all the hubris and braggadocio following our Cold War victory is history."

Normally on MSNBC I tend to yell at the screen when Pat Buchanan talks, however, with his column today, I am concerned that Pat is right.  America has we has known it changed this week.  Pat points out to very clear facts:  we did it to ourselves and it has been a long time coming.

As I have said to my friends before this week, there does not seem to be any relief in sight.

I wholeheartedly believe that Barack Obama is the right person for this time.  However, no one person can change this situation, just as it was not a single president, or political party that created the problem.  Let's home they can come together to work to undo the damage they have wrought.

We are often reminded Rome was not built in a day, neither was it destroyed from within in a day.  Can we turn things around?

I Could Have Been a Contender...or at least worked for one.August 25 2008

In November 2005 my mother passed the Sunday before Thanksgiving from heart disease.  In the summer of the following year as I begin to bring my head above water and found all this time on my hands, while learning about the Internet I found out about this guy running for Senator in Tenn., Harold Ford Jr. and became captivated by his campaign before the "Call Me" commerical ruined his chances.  In hindsight I am not so sure that was a bad thing.  But through his race, I learned about the rising star Senator from Illinois.

Not wanting to spend the anniversary of my mother's passing and the Thanksgiving holiday alone [sure I could have spent the day with friends but it would have left so much time alone at home during that pivotal week] I decided I would do something I have always wanted to do --- take a road trip.  Actually I initially wanted to ride the train to New York city and then drive back.  Well, I did not like the idea that I would have to ride 21 hours to Chicago and then 21 hours to NYC.  Initially I thought about riding to Chicago and then driving to NYC from there but the penalty fees for not returning the vehicle to the same location caused me to scratch that plan.  So I decided to drive from Dallas to Chicago and then a few days later to NYC.  It was a wonderful experience.

The drive gave me great opportunity to blare my CDs from Rolling Stones to Kirk Franklin.  As an audio book lover, I was never bored. The drive also gave me an oppor
