- Miss Van & Jeremy Fish at Fifty24, S.F.December 5 2008
-

© Miss Van, on show - click for details/larger viewI don’t quite understand Miss Van’s new love affair with badly laced oversized underbust corsets and I’m very concerned about the aerodynamic and fireproof potential of skunks, but ooooh well, there are deeper mysteries in art history than this and I’ll just leave you with the details for her San Francisco show.
Miss Van (lower gallery level) has joined forces with Jeremy Fish (upper gallery level) for a double feature at Fifty24 where they will present spanking new works and possibly steal all your Christmas money. Details below.

Titania by Michelle "MIA" Araujo, acrylic on wood - click for details/larger viewIt’s the time of the year again when I can passionately and wholeheartedly boycott all coverage of the travesty that is Art Basel Miami Beach. There might be worse and more capitalist art shows in other galaxies, but it’s very, very hard to imagine.
But let’s move on to more positive art news:
Earlier this week, Illuminate - a three-person group show featuring the works of Michelle “MIA” Araujo, Angelique Houtkamp & Robert Bellm (a rather arbitrary mix of styles, I must admit) - opened at Corey Helford in Culver City.
I think Mia’s works truly show all that can be glorious and great about the much dreaded fantasy art genre when it’s done right and I’m very glad to see that her works get more and more attention these days.
Good old

Bethrothed II by Marc Burckhardt, acrylic & oil on wood panel - click for details/larger viewsCan’t really find any further information on this, but Marc says that he’ll have a few pieces in a group show called America at Silas Marder Gallery in Bridgehampton, NY.
The exhibition opens tomorrow, Saturday, November 29, 2008, 5 - 9 PM.
And with this, I’m off to an early bed - trying to get better… oh, no, wait! The IT Crowd and QI are on. At the same time! My brain will explode in lovely shades of pink! Weeeeeeeeeeeee!

James Jean’s work space - click for details/larger viewBefore you ask (not that you were going to - no-one ever asks me anything here anymore.. pffft!):
Yes, it’s my day off, yes, I have no life, no friends, no proper food, no money to go anywhere, a head cold sneaking in and yes, I’ll be therefore clogging up your feed readers with nonsensical blog and forum posts aaaaaall day long until the internet dies. So there.
Anyway, so next up is a book signing announcement for James Jean’s fabulous Fables collection & XOXO postcard book at Gallery Nucleus, Alhambra.
Free refreshments will be provided because (unless you’re British) there’s nothing as exhausting as queuing. All further details below.
My own (signed.. weeeee!)

Haunted #11 by Joao Ruas, pencil and watercolour on 200gr watercolour paper - click for details/larger viewI’m not sure why I always end up liking male artists exhibiting at women-dominated group shows best, but I’m afraid I can’t help myself and it seems that out of all the 25 artists presented at The Drawing Room, monsieur Joao Ruas‘ oeuvre (see above) has definitely left the biggest impression on me.
Maybe it’s his JamesJeanJeremyEnecioesque rendering or maybe I just like people with reddened nose tips and belly button body mods (see small image below). I dunno.
