Here’s a fantastic video on Semco, one of the most democratic companies in the world (the video won’t embed, so please just click on the link. So worth it!). The short video explores how workers choose their own salaries, the open financials, how their business units work, democratic hiring/firing and how freedom creates a dynamic peer pressure that makes it all work. It also explores Semco’s CEO, Ricardo Semler’s newest projects, a democratic school and a resort that’s built democratically as well. I continue to be so inspired by Semco.

Friday October 24, 2008 — Jennifer HiggsCali Ressler and Jody Thompson want to share with the world that a democratic organization does exist where each person has the power and ability to shape his or her own life through creating a Results-Only Work Environment (ROWE).
Co-Authors of the book Why Work Sucks and How to Fix It, the creation of ROWE began as a small experiment at Best Buy’s corporate headquarters in 2003 and has grown to be a global movement.
