- Fireside in Los Angeles: Fort Wayne's Stanton FloreaYesterday
-
Every national news organization is reporting today on the wildfires burning in the Angeles National Forest near Los Angeles, California.
The National Forest Service spokesman providing the information for all these reports is Stanton Florea, a Fort Wayne native. He is a graduate of Carroll High School and Ball State University and was an outstanding runner athlete at both institutions.
He is also the son of Dick and Phyllis Florea. Dick Florea was the longtime news director and anchor at Fort Wayne's NBC affiliate WKJG, Channel 33.
I talked with Dick Florea this afternoon after hearing Stanton Florea on NPR. The younger Florea surely picked up useful knowledge growing up by observing the hard work and class his Dad brought to his responsibilities in keeping the Fort Wayne viewing public informed.

The apparent suicide of convicted family and child killer Simon Rios at Pendleton Reformatory is the coda to a terrible Fort Wayne tragedy.
His death deserves no other comment than its notation.
