R.I.P. Reggie DunlopOctober 8

We're obviously late getting to this but hockey and the world at large lost an icon on September 26th with the passing of Reggie Dunlop, aka Paul Newman.

BECK & MGMTOctober 7

The headliner tonight was the sold out Beck. The man who made it cool to be a Loser, opened the show with his signature song. The crowd came back alive with the first effortless strum of those familiar chords after the dramatically long break after openers MGMT.

What was going on with the MGMT at the Sound Academy last night? First they pulled a Brandon Flowers and disallowed photos, all photos even fans... and then they lost the plot on a few of their instruments and in the end lost the plot on their songs. Now one can speculate on the reason that might be, and one might get their speculations confirmed later with the Jim Morrison-style antics onstage...

Now let's start at the start.

The scalpers were on fire for this sold out show outside and the sardine-packed fans stirred inside with anticipation. And what they got was the very mystical slow intro of MGMT oozing reverb into the Academy. Next Wednesday, comedian Finesse Mitchell will be on the show. Mitchell has been on SNL, Showtime at the Apollo, BET's ComicView, Comedy Central Presents and NBC's Late Friday. The Sean Avery interview last week was amazing. Seriously, whether you love him or hate him, the dude has got some serious charisma and isn't afraid to speak his mind.
Well, having spoken his mind on our show, the sports community seems to now be paying rather close attention.
Stu Hackel, from the NY Times Slapshot blog has written about the interview twice now, saying "it's great viewing", while William Houston from the Globe & Mail quoted Avery's comments about Don Cherry in a blog posting that's generated 133 comments to date.
