- Oh, why not. I'll go paperless tooAugust 23 2007
-
Alright, for the past three semesters I've told myself I was going paperless, but I always end up with mounds of papers and books because I never fully try.
While Eric Mack is doing his 8-Week challenge, I'll be joining him, since 8 weeks from now would put me at my last final and that just makes good timing.
Currently I have two books I use all the time that aren't scanned in I need to do, plus I need to get my files organized and paper files scanned and put away for good. Luckily this weekend shouldn't be too busy with studying, so I have some time. All I'm allowing paper for is printing homework and taking pop-quizzes. Oh yeah, and physics lab and because there's a bunch of things that could knock the tablet off the table or scratch the surface.
Anyway, my desk is MESSY right now. That needs to be fixed.
Feel free to join Eric and me on our challenge! We can help each other out getting it down to a science ^_^.

We've grown kinda big here at The Student Tablet PC. Over 200 articles and over 750 comments, with most of those articles and comments swamped and hidden in a mass of poor organization. I know it, because sometime I have trouble finding things that I know are there.
The original intent of The Student Tablet PC was to be a website, but we went with a blog format because it was easy to set up, easy to slowly add on to, and easy to keep up with what was updated. Since then, we've turned into a mix of news updates, how-to articles, and reviews, and we need a site that gives us more freedom to do what we want with our information we offer. Long story short, we're moving up to Movable Type.
We already have a domain name and host we've been using for our forums, so it's a fairly easy switch. For those looking for a host, iPowerWeb offers a lot for a great price in a professional manner. With any switch, however, there may be some downtime and weird stuff going on. Right now www.studenttabletpc.com goes to the new blog, so just use http://studenttabletpc.blogs.com (I think most links to us use this link so the effects should be minimal).
And don't worry, everything here will be transferred and we'll try to keep any links from being busted.
Thanks for your patience ^_^.
- Acrobat CommentingAugust 23 2007

I was speaking with Eric Mack and he mentioned his search for a program which kept track of what you highlighted. It didn't dawn on me until then that Acrobat may be an answer (though not ideal).
If you've used Adobe Acrobat 7.0 before, you likely know that you can mark-up your PDF files by highlighting text, underlining text, and adding comments. By selecting a commenting option and using the comment list/summary, you can give yourself a list of every word you mark up.
More details after the jump.
First, to get the comment text to show up on the list, you need to go into the Comment Preferences.

Select the box "Copy selected text into Highlight, Cross-Out, and Underline comment pop-ups." Now, when you Highlight something and mouse over it, you should see the text you highlighted in the pop-up.

After you make your comments and you're ready to see everything you did, you have some options.
1. Comment List: showing the comment list, well, lists the comments you made. This is where checking that box in the preferences pays off because every highlight, cross out, note and underline you did is recor
- It Came! M200 Finally back from ToshibaAugust 23 2007

OK, since this is the first time I've had a chance to breath in the last 48 hours, I'm finally getting around to posting this (I told you it was a busy week).
Yesterday around 11 AM Central, my tablet arrived at my house. I'll admit to skipping physics so I could get home sooner.
Aside from all the hassle this whole ordeal was, I'd have to say it turned out alright. Not only did I get a brand new tablet back (we'll disregard that I sent them a new tablet in the first place), but I also got the things that come with a new tablet, such as another power cord and another pen. Another surprise was I now have a 60 GB harddrive when the original had 40 GB, and also, when I went to put in my new 1 GB stick of RAM (OK, I bought it a month ago), I found one 512 MB stick instead of the 2 x 256 MB I started off with. My computer is dang fast right now.
Thank you to everyone who commented, sent an e-mail to me, sent an e-mail notifying someone else, or actually facilitated the return of my tablet. I feel complete again with my computer at hand, and it's easy to see I'm part of a great community.
