Blogger Outreach: Sharp Aquos Thin Panel HD TV [Pro PR]November 13

I’m doing something I rarely do. Talking about a piece of Thornley Fallis‘  work.

But I just have to point to something that makes me very, very proud - a blogger outreach pitch that our team did this week for the Sharp Aquos XS1. That’s the new thin, thin HD television that Sharp has introduced. Thin? 1″ at its thinnest point.

Smart people have taught me that great design is knowing what to leave out so that you can get at the essence of something. And that leads to simplicity. And impact. And comprehension.

So, imagine my delight when Tod Maffin’s post showed up in Google Reader last night. You have to see to understand. Here’s Tod’s post:

Form mirrors content

Form mirrors content. Awesome.

The team could simply have sent the news release to the bloggers they wanted to reach out to. But they didn’t. They did something else. A slimmed down pitch that conveyed in its form the core feature of the

Ace of Base relaunch with fans as fourth member [Media Culpa]November 13
mia rose and ulf ekberg of ace of base

British-Portuguese artist Mia Rose became an instant hit on YouTube after uploading videos of herself singing. The twenty-year old singer quickly grew a large dedicated fan base that loved her songs on YouTube, which has now been viewed many million times. Her channel on YouTube has more than 150,000 subscribers. Her popularity got her a record deal with a major record label, which she now has left for an independent label in order to be more in control over her career.

Mia performed one of her songs today at SIME in Stockholm and attended a panel together with Stefan Glaenzer, founder of Last.fm and Ulf Ekberg of Ace of Base. Last.fm according to Glaenzer "is the last destination you need in your life".

Swedish pop combo Ace of Base might be the next succesful example of the future of the music business. Ulf Ekberg showed how the ban

Is this the voice of Kevin Rudd? [NevilleHobson.com]November 13

kevinruddtwitter

If this really is Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd who is the author of this Twitter account in his name, started yesterday, that would surely make him the first leader of a major country who twitters.

Is it Mr Rudd writing the tweets, or it it someone on his staff? That’s a question others like ZDNet are also asking.

Tweets in the first person like the latest one shown in the screenshot make it apparent that it’s the PM.

As I strongly believe in authenticity and transparency with social media usage – so no ghost writing blog posts or tweets without disclosure – I hope it really is Kevin Rudd. This was a discussion point in today’s FIR podcast, to be published later today.

KevinPM, what do you say?

Social Networking for Business Explained [The|Intangibles]November 13

With a hat tip to @Monika29 (Twitter) for bringing to my attention this - albeit pretty basic - visual demonstration of social networking for business from VizEdu.

It is valuable in part because it summarizes in about 30 seconds case studies of the effective use of social networking to solve business challenges: Cooper Systems use of 'Linked in' as a recruitment tool; and H&R Block's 'Facebook' presence as a means of creating awareness of its products and maintaining relationships with its "fans".

Beyond that, VizEdu's simple visual platform is an example of how social media can be used to communicate, teach or present through creative application of animation and words.

I have an idea for my next new business pitch presentation! (Apologies for not being able to figure how to adjust the HTML to get the image to fit. I tried adjusting the height-width pixels, but to no effect. Any suggestions?)
