Hump Day Humor- Ridiculous Cell Phone EditionFebruary 4

Straight out of China comes "The Machismo!" – billed as "the world's hottest cigarette lighter mobile phone." Does that mean there's more than one? Like, are there other, lesser, not-as-hot cell phones with built-in cigarette lighters? Nothing would surprise me after seeing this.

One of the things I love the most about my Blackberry is how easy it is to share information. With the press of a key, I can send a link to the website I'm viewing to my husband, or share the article I'm reading on Viigo with all my friends on Twitter:

And with apps like ZonaSnap, I can even send a screenshot via email or to my Photobucket account:

Its not that this is all unique to the Blackberry OS, but its the ease with which a single shortcut key (hit "P" while browser to get the send options) invokes the command that makes it something that I find myself doing all the time

Apple's New iPadFebruary 1
Here it is- Apple's latest creation: the iPad. It's pretty much exactly what we all expected it would be- an oversized iPod Touch. People have expressed a range of opinions from disappointment to glee...to be honest, I don't think this device requires either spectrum. It just is.

In the same way that I don't think that someone who owns an iPhone is necessarily a candidate for the iPod Touch, I also don't think that the iPad would be a companion to the iPod Touch.

I think it makes sense that Apple is offering the iPhone experience in a range of devices- with a phone radio, without a phone radio, and in a larger size. But revolutionary? I'd have to say no.

At $500 for the base model, I won't fully rule it out for me personally- although I think it will mean ditching my iPhone-as-iPod setup, moving my audio podcasts to my Blackberry....

Freeware App Store for Windows MobileJanuary 26
OpnMarket

About a month or so ago I decided to purchase a used HTC Diamond online so I could keep up with the world of Windows Mobile. I've loaded a lot of my favorite oldies- Kinoma, iLauncher, Resco Explorer to name a few. Last week I heard that there was a new freeware appstore and decided to give it a shot this weekend. OpnMarket is an app version of the popular freeware site freewarepocketpc.net. You'll need to create an account there (presumably to track downloads and versions).
I think its very well laid out, and a nice easy way to browse and download free apps. The only thing I had a hard time with was finding screenshots. If they are there- I certainly couldn't find it and the tiny thumbnails were too small to get a good feel for the app.
Aside from that, a very solid effort from the folks over at FreewarePocketPC.

Sweet New RideJanuary 21

This Monday we decided to head to the Nissan dealer to take a look at some options for us. I've had my little Daewoo Lanos for 10 years now, and although its been a perfect champ the lack of air conditioning has made it a real bear since we moved to Texas. Dean has gamely been driving it while I drove his 5 year old Nissan Xterra, but over Christmas he proposed getting me a (pre-owned) Murano. I had been really intrigued by the shape and silhoutte of the Nissan Murano for a few years and I was firmly resolved that it was the vehicle I wanted.
Once we got to the dealership, I took a test drive of a 2009 Nissan Murano and found that even though the ride was really smooth, I just wasn't wowed the way I thought I would be. I felt it was a tad too large, and something about it felt like a real "adult" car in a way that I can't entirely explain. That was when I noticed the brand new 2010 Nissan Rogue Krom edition sitting in the middle of the showroom. It had all the curves I liked in the Murano, but in a smaller, sportier body. And-wait for the girly moment- they had it in black, which was exactly the color I wanted. I was hooked- the gas consumption was considerably less than the Murano, the ride was zippier, and it was compact enough for Seth to be able to climb in and ou
