Yesterday was a historic day. On January 20th, 2009, Barack H. Obama was sworn in as the 44th President of the United States of America - the first African-American ever to hold the office of U.S. Commander-in-Chief. The event was witnessed by well over one million attendees in chilly Washington D.C., and by many millions more through coverage on television and the Internet. Collected here are photographs of the event, the participants, and some of the witnesses around the world. (48 photos total)

Men's Health updates its list of the worst foods to eat in the U.S., finding a wealth of new terrible-for-you menu options to avoid if you're anywhere near concerned with your health or waistline. Here's a sampling of the findings, tied to the same "Eat This, Not That!" diet plan we pulled eight worst foods from last year. Digging deep, the authors found some even-worse toppers for a few categories:
- The Worst Food in America of 2009: Baskin Robbins Large Chocolate Oreo Shake, 2,600 calories, 135 g fat ... "more than a day's worth of calories and three days worth of saturated fat, and, worst of all, usually takes less than 10 minutes to sip through a straw."
- Worst Sandwich of 2009: Quizno’s Tuna Melt (large), 2,090 calories, 175 g fat ... "Puts tuna’s healthy reputation on the line. A large homemade sandwich would likely provide one-fourth of the calories."
- Worst Salad of 2009: T.G.I. Frid

As the eyes of the world were focused on the pomp and circumstance of Barack Obama moving into a new role as President of the United States, Obama's Web team was hard at work - with far less fanfare - moving their Web property to a new address: whitehouse.gov, the official Web site for the President. And while, at first blush, the site may appear similar to Obama's President-elect site, change.gov, it is strikingly different than the predecessors who have occupied whitehouse.gov over the past 12 years. How different? Let's take a look.Humble Beginnings

No, those aren’t giant ants swarming around the Washington Monument all the way up to the U.S. Capitol Building. This is the first satellite image of the inauguration taken at 11:19 AM EST today by the GeoEye-1 satellite. This is the same satellite that supplies Google with images for Google Maps and Google Earth, so we may see this image show up there one day as well.
All those clumps of people in between the Washington Monument and the Capitol are clustered around Jumbotron screens. The image was taken from 423 miles in space and shows objects as small as a half-meter. Click on the image for a larger view. (I had to compress all the images to put them online). That doesn’t look like two million people. Does it? TechCrunch T-shirt to the first reader to accurately count all the ants.
