- Access Rapidshare Even If It Is BannedToday
-
If you are in the position to have access to a network that has banned Rapidshare but is otherwise pretty lax when it comes to restrictions you might want to bypass the ban to be able to download from Rapidshare. I would not advise doing that at work or school because it can have serious consequences. Still, if you want to try if it is working you might want to head over to the Mozilla website and install the Download Rapidshare @ Office add-one for the web browser.
It is not yet another proxy if that is what you thought. The add-on merely lookups the IP of the Rapidshare download page and uses that to initiate the download. If the network administrator has only banned Rapidshare.com in the network then it will work.
If he did ban the IP range as well it won’t. Once installed the add-on adds a toolbar with an option to paste a Rapidshare link into it. Pasting the link into it and pressing the button next to the toolbar will change the url so that the IP is used for accessing the download page.

A Javascript window will be launched once the IP has been converted which will immediately display the download dialog. It seems to also be an excellent shortcut to down
- Open Random Website In FirefoxToday
-
Are you feeling bored right now? Don’t know what to do? If you want to spend time on the Internet but don’t know where you might let fate decide instead. Random Site is a Firefox add-on that opens a random page in the currently active tab in Firefox.
It takes those pages from Google Search History. It’s a service by Google that is recording the web activities of a logged in user. To be honest I have no idea how the random pages are fetched only that they are not necessarily the pages that you visited previously. A quick test with the test search lead to Engadget, BoingBoing and Youtube.
The random site add-on is powered by a small button that has to be moved to one of the Firefox toolbars. This is done with a right-click on blank space of a toolbar and the selection of Customize from the menu.
Once the button has been dragged and dropped to the toolbar it can be used to load a random page in the active tab. If the user is not logged into his Google account he will be prompted to do so after the first start.

This function looks pretty similar to the stumble button of the Stumbleupon toolbar but it is definitely an interesting option as it launches websites that have not been previously visited by the user. If anyone knows additional
- Everything Is A Rather Unusual Desktop Search ToolToday
-
Search tools usually begin to display results as soon as the user is entering some characters. Some instantly display hits while others require the use of the enter key to start the search. Everything - that’s the name of the portable software that is under review - uses a different approach.
Like the name suggests it starts off by displaying everything - that is all files and folders - of a computer system. It eliminates all files and folders that do not match the search query of the user in the instant the key is pressed. What this means is that thousands of file names and folders will be displayed at the beginning, for example 1.5 million on a Windows XP test system.
Entering characters will reduce that amount drastically so that the required files and folders will be left in the end. To ensure that all files and folders have to be added to the index at start. It might take a minute or two depending on the amount of files. The developer mentions that indexing 1 million files will take around 1 minute. The index will be stored on the computer’s hard drive in the same location that the file was launched from. The one million indexed files and folders take up about 5 Megabytes of hard drive space.

- File Management Software BelvedereToday
-
Belvedere is at its heart a Windows port of the popular Mac OSX file management software Hazel. It is being developed by Lifehacker’s own Adam Pash and currently available in version 0.3. Not all functions and features of Hazel have been implemented yet which is demonstrated by the version. Still, some core functionality is available.
The file management software Belvedere is a portable software program. The source code is provided as well on the program’s homepage. But what exactly are the features of the file management software?
Belvedere in its current stage can be used to define file management rules on certain folders of the system. The software program is capable of moving, copying, renaming, deleting or opening files that match conditions specified by the user.
Conditions for the name, file extension, size or dates can be configured. It would for instance be no problem to create a rule to move all files with the file extension xyz to another folder. Conditions can be combined so that Belvedere will automatically start the process when any or all of the conditions are met.

Belvedere is running in the b
